Shoppers say they're seeing more requests to add gratuity at more places — even on some online orders. During the holiday season, how do you tell when to add a tip and when to skip it?
Dipayan Biswas, a marketing and business professor at the University of South Florida, told CNN that "it's a relatively new phenomenon" that he sees becoming more widespread.
Biswas, who's studied tipping for a decade, said the new trend started with the boom of digital kiosks. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic happened, along with inflation, which enticed businesses to allow tips to make jobs more lucrative. "Like I'm sick and tired of tipping right? So, that's my biggest worry that it might actually affect the industry where it really matters the most," Biswas said.

Dipayan Biswas should hook up with Dahlia Dippolito.
Not if he wants to stay alive.
Bet this asswipe tips his Starbucks baristas.
Everything has doubled and tripled in price, but now we’re supposed to worry about tips....gak~
Cybertipping? Say what?
I heard what you heard, and I saw what you saw, and it didn't happen.
What didn’t happen?
I sometimes go to a Japanese takeaway. If you use a credit card there, you are presented with a choice of tips to pay, without a choice to decline.
Europeans think Americans tip too much. They claim it is a way for employers to underpay their workers. The reality is they are tightwads and don’t want to have to tip when they are touristing in America. I don’t know if this fellow is European or what but the name is not one I see musc in my neck of the woods.
"Server didn't spit in your rice: 15%. Server washed hands after bathroom break: 20%. Server didn't initiate violent altercation with guest: 25%"

A professor studies tipping for a decade. Waste of time and money? No wonder college is so expensive.
No tip for Prof!
You can find various videos that include the call on YT.
My favorite treatment of the situation was done by a guy who calls himself "True Crime Loser." I think he did several videos about the Dalia Dippolito case, and they're quite funny. He's a stand-up comic who's subject matter is largely gleaned from various on-line police interrogation videos.
No “Custom” button?
Odd.
Yeah, use the “custom” button at the bottom of the screen.
In before the: “Buy low, Sell high” tip.
My local Subway (sammich shop). where I go occasionally to buy a foot long Tuna (Now $10.20 each) has added a tip jar prominently displayed near the cash register.
“Will you one day be in your doctor’s office or your dentist’s office, will you be tipping?”
So...I WASN’T supposed to stuff that $20 in the Tip Jar as I was leaving the dentist office?
The one that gets me is when you order take out food, and pick it up, they want a tip.
