Six Reasons to Celebrate Festivus

No longer do you have to choose between just two man made winter celebration events, now there’ a third. Festivus! Let’s explore why this one may be the right one for you.

!. No pressure to buy gifts for anyone. It’s completely optional and not expected. It’s on you. So Festivus is STRESS FREE.

2. No more going to company Christmas parties where the temptation to indulge in too much alcohol and have an inappropriate incident. Remember how Larry got drunk and put his arms around the company President? She didn’t like it and Larry was fired the next day. Festivus can be a CAREER SAVER.

3. No Christmas parties and no alcohol excesses means no DUIs or car wrecks. Stay home and be safe. Festivus SAVES LIVES.

4. No Christmas tree. An unadorned aluminum pole stands proudly in your living room. No trouble to put away at all. But that flammable Christmas Tree that looks so nice over by the fireplace is just looking for you to drop your guard so it can burn your house down with you in it. Again Festivus SAVES LIVES.

5. Festivus brings families together in a way Christmas never could. The Feats of Strength and the Airing of Grievances brings a relief to ones soul in a way that catching pneumonia caroling, the shredding of Christmas paper all over the house and the smoldering Christmas tree never could. Festivus SAVES the FAMILY UNIT.

6. While the company may ask (pressure) you to attend a company Christmas party or give to a certain charity, pull out your notebook and scribble away as you pronounce it as against your principles, religious beliefs and (for their information) you’ve already donated to The Human Fund. And that you are documenting this exchange in case they do any mid winter layoffs. This ammunition is just more insurance against job loss or you may get a hefty payout in a lawsuit. Again Festivus is a CAREER SAVER.

There you have it. Six good reasons to celebrate Festivus (for the rest of us).

We should adopt the airing of grievances for Chrismas Eve.

LOL, here on FR we don’t wait for Festivus to air our grievances. It’s pretty much 365 days a year.

So, the Airing of Grievances has started before the supper meal? tush shay. A petard has been lobbed my way. My senses are underwhelmed. I felt a disturbance in the Force that a million grievances has been aired out in the Universe, never to return.

“Festivus” was/is a mockery of the second most important event in human history - the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christians that honor it or “celebrate” it are doing satan’s bidding.
Any questions?

A lot of so-called Christmas traditions are a mockery of the birth of Jesus Christ.

I do have a question (or two).
What makes you think there is a connection with December 25 and the birth of Christ?
Festivus is a winter celebration. If you don't want to join in on our reindeer games, that's on you. Romans 14:5 5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. It's not a religious day and never meant to be. But neither is Christmas. Another man made celebration day. YMMV.

Dec. 25th as Christmas has been celebrated since at least the 300s when it appears in the Chronography of 354 and the writings of St. John Chrysostom. According to him, the Roman Christians got the date directly from the census records.

And in support of that idea, the Roman author Hippolytus mentions the birth of Christ on Dec. 25th...he wrote around the year 200.

And anyway, even if it were invented last year, the idea that man *shouldn’t* celebrate the birth of the Savior here on earth is just plain Puritanical idiocy.

No doubt somewhere in history somebody thought this was a good idea (for whatever reason). Feel free to celebrate it if you wish. It matters not to me. Bear in mind neither Jesus or the Apostles celebrated it. I'm not saying it *shouldn't* be celebrated if a person feels better about themselves to do so, but it isn't Biblical. Therefore not Christian.

If one wants to celebrate Christian holidays, they are laid out in the Bible, the ones God designated. Leviticus 23 would be a good place to start your search.
And before the "holier than thou" response, I'd like to point out what Jesus said to observe in John 14:15-24 and that is the Ten Commandments including the Sabbath (Saturday). Matthew 12:8 Jesus shows the day He wishes observed not some John C or Hippolytus wishes.
Peace be unto you
