Officials in New Mexico are set to deliver a decision on Thursday about whether or not they will pursue criminal charges against Alec Baldwin or others in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of Western movie Rust.

Halyna Hutchins was killed by a live round fired by the gun the actor was holding on October 21, 2021, but the actor insists he didn't pull the trigger and blames prop managers for not checking if the gun was loaded.

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb will announce their decision at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

Baldwin is among up to four people who may face criminal charges for the death of the cinematographer, Carmack-Altwies has said.

The '30 Rock' and 'Saturday Night Live' actor, who also served as a producer on 'Rust,' has denied responsibility for the shooting

An FBI forensic test of the single-action revolver that Baldwin was using found it 'functioned normally' and would not fire without the trigger being pulled

How? They said it functioned normally and would only fire if the trigger was pulled. He can’t argue that it just “went off”.

She probably won’t charge him. From the beginning, I could tell that this district attorney was going to slow walk and drag her feet to reach any conclusion. She’s too Chicken!

Oh yeah, good point.

Anyway, I doubt he’ll face a charge. Or it’ll be some minor procedural charge. Meanwhile, there a people in New Mexico sitting in prison for shooting someone at a party with a gun they thought wasn’t loaded.

In his suit, Baldwin accuses Gutierrez-Reed of failing to verify that a Colt revolver he was using in rehearsal was safe. The suit also states that Halls failed to check the weapon before he declared it safe and handed it to Baldwin...

...who also didn't bother to check the revolver. But only one of them pointed it at a human being and fired it.

In recent case: The Santa Fe New Mexican notes, “Carmack-Altwies said that while it will be difficult to identify the specific victims in the toppling of the obelisk on Oct. 12, anyone is welcome to present their grievances to the program’s mediator, Debra Oliver.”
Still, people are not happy with her weak-on-crime approach to holding these vandals accountable. One commenter said, “Mary, It is called ‘you let em go free.’” These words ring loud and clear for many New Mexicans, especially those in Santa Fe who will now have a chance to kick out Mayor Alan Webber, responsible for letting the obelisk get toppled as he commanded the police to stand by and watch.

I’d like go take that gun apart. There’s a leaf-spring on the back of the hand that I’m curious about. I’ve got a similarly designed tevolver with that spring broken. If I cock it while it’s pointed downward, gravity pulls the trigger down and locks it at full cock. Held level, or higher, neither half-or full-cock pawls engage. Cock the hammer, release, and it falls on the primer.

Someone needs to go down for the live ammo, at least.
