I was plagued by the shadowy bedside figure that you can’t look straight at, always in my peripheral vision from childhood.

Then I got RK eye surgery to correct my near sightedness and astigmatisms.

No more shadow figures.

When I first moved into my 1927 mountain cottage 42 years ago, I did a BIG remodeling job, taking out walls, turning the attached springhouse into a bathroom, putting a bedroom where the kitchen was, etc. Turned out quite nice. One evening that same year I was sitting in the living room (that used to be a bedroom), the old woman whose house it had been and who had passed on a couple of years earlier, was sitting in the chair across from me. I couldn’t hear her speak, but she made it clear that she was just checking out what I had done to her house, and that she was happy with the changes. I was left with such a pleasant feeling. As far as I know, she hasn’t been back.
