Gulf of Mexico warming 2 times faster than global ocean, report says (only 7.92 years left)

(KXAN) - A new study has found that surface waters in the Gulf of Mexico have warmed approximately twice as fast as the global ocean over the last 50 years.

The study, published last month in the American Meteorological Society’s Journal of Climate and conducted by scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Northern Gulf Institute (NGI), found “significant warming” of the Gulf’s sea surface temperature - a 1.8°F jump between 1970-2020.

This works out to 0.34°F of warming per decade, equating to roughly twice the rate of warming observed in the global ocean as a whole.

In a grim speech to the Security Council’s first-ever meeting on the threat to international peace and security from rising sea levels, Guterres declared that sea levels will rise significantly even if global warming is “miraculously” limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit), the elusive international goal.

He warned the Earth is more likely on a path to warming that amounts to “a death sentence” for countries vulnerable to that rise, including many small island nations.

In addition to threatened countries, Guterres said, “mega-cities on every continent will face serious effects, including Cairo, Lagos, Maputo, Bangkok, Dhaka, Jakarta, Mumbai, Shanghai, Copenhagen, London, Los Angeles, New York, Buenos Aires and Santiago.”

“Our world is hurtling past the 1.5-degree warming limit that a livable future requires, and with present policies, is careening towards 2.8 degrees - a death sentence for vulnerable countries,” Guterres said.

That's because it's closer to the sun. Duh. And since the Gulf of Mexico isn't attached to any other body of water, there's absolutely no way to equalize that soaring temperature. Eating bugs is the only way out of this mess. Science.

Once the Climate Change scientists can control volcanoes, then maybe control of phenomena such as Ocean warming may be controlled. The Tonga Volcano in Jan. 2022 pumped 58 billion tons of ash and vapors into the atmosphere. It was the strongest explosion in 1200 years and literally shook planet earth because it set off seismometers around the globe.

Yea, more fear and outrage pron. The Gulf of Mexico is shallow as large bodies of water go. Once summer kicks off, the Gulf becomes a salt water bath tub. It has always been like that. The Bering Sea it ain’t.

Desantis' fault!

Also, it's due to the color of the water in the Gulf: it tends to be more of an emerald green. The cooler, darker blue water from the Pacific ocean needs to be mixed in, feeding it through the Panama Canal, so as to regulate and slow the rate of warming.

My God! 0.34°F of warming per DECADE! When will the madness end?

well within the margin of error, so it is meaningless.

From global cooling to global warming to
climate change. 2014 NY Times “we could be seeing the end of snow” to 2015 record snowfall in Northeast.
This year Boston has had only 7 inches of
snow. A “Facebook memory” on my timeline
had a pic of Burlington VT I’d put on my timeline-—2012...no snow.

Is it possible we can’t control the weather
(anthropogenic climate change) and each year it varies when it comes to snowfall, hurricanes, etc? Anyone fly in a plane and when looking down on the earth notice how vast it is...how can we little fleas contribute to global warming or cooling?

Better stop driving cars, or convert to electric vehicles..but where does that power come from?

Mild winter this year but one Fri-Sat it was 9 below zero here. Not long after that...60.
Right now snow was predicted but oh wait...
warmness in upper atmosphere made it rain instead.
Global warming, our fault! But for all we know next year could bring snowfall to rival 2015.
Yes we can do things to clean up the air.
There’s a museum about Pittsburgh at the top of one of their inclines and it pointed out how years ago, smoke from the factories made
9 am seem like night, it was so dark. Good
for them, cleaner air now.

But the drastic measures suggested to stop
“climate change” are foolish. Glad that this
year at least hasn’t been full of shoveling, cars sliding, frigid temps with windchill etc. (other than that frigid Feb 4).
Maybe next year we can see an anti global warming march in a March snowstorm like what Amherst MA had some years ago.
