Backlash over 'transgender' LEGO sets leads to boycott calls

WASHINGTON (TND) — Makers of the classic build block toy LEGO are the latest to receive criticism and calls for boycotts after one popular social media account claimed the toymaker was "featuring transgender building sets for kids."

Before Pride Month last year, The LEGO Group announced its "A-Z of Awesome" campaign, which features "a colorful alphabet of identities built from LEGO bricks, created by our incredible LGBTQIA+ fans!"

Conservative British influencer Oli London apparently thought the campaign was selling the LGBTQIA+ sets, potentially to children. Sharing a video clip of the campaign on Twitter, London exclaimed: "LEGO turns TRANS!"

Oh god when I was a 3-4 little boy, I built stuff with the hand me down big lego blocks.

Lego has gone the woke route

’ “The information on Twitter is false. We have not released any LGBTQIA+ sets aimed at children,” the spokesperson reportedly said. “A-Z of Awesome was a marketing campaign released last year that featured sets built by our amazing adult fans. None of these sets are for sale.” ‘

That must be the Lego set you can transition to Play-Doh by setting it on fire.

When our boys grew up and moved out, we didn’t do as many parents do and sell, donate, or toss out the Legos. Instead, we put them in the attic. The look on our grandsons’ faces when we let them discover that treasure-trove was a sight to behold. All those Legos, from their dad and uncle’s Christmas and birthdays of the past, were packed in Rubbermaid containers and just waiting on the next generation to find and enjoy. Our boys even kept the building direction booklets so they were stored in the containers as well.

If Lego plans to go the ‘woke’ route, so be it. Our grandchildren have sufficient Legos to build whatever they wish. I suspect if I dug deeper in the attic, I might even find one or two more containers of Legos long forgotten.

Going after Lego and Chick-fil-A in the alternative media is a distraction campaign. Whatever you may say about these firms, they are not particularly “woke” or connected to leftist investment firms like Blackrock, unlike Target or Anheuser Busch. I suspect that some trolling is being done to dilute the successful boycotts and to hold the boycotters up for ridicule. I saw where several left wing media sources were mocking conservative threats of boycotting Chick-fil-A, a company with a conservative reputation until 2019.

Well done CFW!! And when your grown children returm to visit, make sure you sprinkle a few legos around their bedroom floors so they can experience the joy of stepping on them barefoot in the middle of the night.

LEGO has not been a very savvy company when its come to doing social credit woke things. They are Dutch so you have to factor that in. Albeit a little slow on the uptake sometimes. They don’t understand a lot of things about their customers.

Your older LEGO bricks and sets, if in good shape, could be worth a lot. The better the shape, and more boxes and manuals you have, the better.

Kept our Beanie Babies in case my kids wanted them.

Now they don’t want them but I do!

Great memories!

I know! But, the grandsons (pre-teens) are having such fun with them, we aren’t worried about their monetary value. We even have the little creatures and swords, helmets, and light sabers from the star wars set from the original movie release. R2D2 and Yoda figures, etc (along with all the pieces for the Millennium Falcon). We purchased the grand-boys plastic shelving bins to store them in and they are good about returning the pieces to those bins after building something (I believe they have four 3-drawer units now for Lego storage, in addition to the Rubbermaid storage containers). They may eventually sell them or just pass them down to their children (my favorite idea).

I suspect my son and d-i-l let out enough curses at their own house to have sufficient payback for those times my sons left their legos on MY floor.

You and me, Boardwalk! I also have Lego sets stored in my basement. I just need to unearth them, now that we have a grandchild.
