California lawmakers have moved onto the next big battleground in the convulsive world of college sports: sharing the industry’s wealth with athletes.
...That could include a windfall for University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles, football players after their schools move in 2024 to the Big Ten, as they would benefit from the conference’s $7.5 billion seven-year media rights deal.
Payments to players would be based on a formula in which half of the money is set aside for male athletes and half for female athletes every year, and then apportioned equally among players in programs that generate revenue over the 2021-2022 baseline, after the cost of players’ scholarships has been deducted.
... a provision that could bring paychecks for graduating female athletes even in sports that don’t turn a profit on schools’ balance sheets.

This should be taxable income?
A late friend was all-state HS basketball, four years college, and drafted into the pros ( #666 or something) and had many tales about life on "THE TEAM" and instructors that were "FRIENDS Of THE TEAM".
If the players are earning billions then they should be getting paid. There’s never been any problem with coaches getting multi-million dollar paychecks so why not pay the players?
Yeah, but the $NCAA$ and $colleges$ would want to continue to reap the same profits as before. Therefore ticket prices and advertising costs will have to climb significantly.
But, ho-hum, not my problem.
The dudes are gonna be a little ticked that the female teams that are revenue losers are getting paid the same.
Life just doesn't work that way.
Rapoine or whatever her name is has learned that the hard way.
**That could include a windfall for University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles, football players after their schools move in 2024 to the Big Ten,**
Does ‘Ten’ not mean 10 anymore? Hasn’t that conference already increased to 12 or 14 schools?

Half goes to each. If there are fewer females does this mean each female will get more than each male?
I love college football and softball. Lots of changes coming most likely. I keep thinking at some point there will be a limit to the money but it nvr happens. I have no problem with them getting what they can get but it’ll be fun to see the war break out amongst athletes if the money gets divided up. They talk woke but they’re capitalists
Odd that we’re talking about the profits of non-profit universities. Seems there’s also another issue that should be addressed...by the IRS.

A PIG CAN GET FAT.
HOGS GET SLAUGHTERED!!!
There may be a dozen or so NCAA programs that make large sums of cash, and in a few years, those programs will set themselves apart from the NCAA, recruiting top players and making a TV deal that will relegate the remaining athletic programs to bankruptcy.
By the time you line this idea up....how do you handle a team of 50-odd football players (ages 18 to 21), and suggesting that five players will be getting $60k for a season, while 15 of the least will get no more than $18k for the season?
The soccer players getting a equal chunk of what football players get? Volleyball players getting equal of what basketball players get?
I see this generating a lot of turmoil for three years, and players start refusing to play unless their pay is increased. Go explain strikes around a NCAA campus.
Do the Trans athletes get paid twice?
This will be completely disruptive to college\university education in general. It will spur graduate student unionization as well as unionization for staff, faculty, clerical. colleges & universities one of the last frontiers for unions. Can’t have jocks making more then those in “education”!
Who will have to pay for all of this? can you guess? One word! THE TAXPAYERS both in massive tuition increases & incre4ased subsidies for the schools.
Easy, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, A&M, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame will be able to afford it, the rest of the schools will not.
Yep, a lot of schools are going to drop football.

Only AFTER a full accounting of the costs, including permanent injuries. A football player I knew had lost ALL of his teeth before he finished college and had numerous ugly scars from repair surgery...
And clearly the players, coaches, trainers... need a FULL SERVICE UNION!
They should also have to pay for the athletic scholarships they received

In the tradition of “To each according to his needs...”
All pay should be equal after all expenses are paid.
IMO, after long-term medical support system-wide is paid, the payout could be near ZERO.
BUT,BUT special legislation will dump them all on 0bamacare!!! IT’S FREE!!!???

And yet another half to the transxyz athletes.
It may be finically advantageous to play transxyz!( with new math)
