Treat Williams died unexpectedly Monday following a motorcycle accident in Vermont. He was 71.

SNIP

“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” he said. “I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”

SNIP

Authorities stated that around 4:53 p.m., “a southbound 2008 Honda Element […] attempted to turn left into a parking lot.” The initial investigation detailed that the Element “stopped, signaled a left turn, and then turned into the path of a northbound 1986 Honda VT700c motorcycle operated by Williams.”

Such a familiar face, seems like I’ve seen him tons of roles, but strangely the one that comes to mind most if The Substitute 2.

So sad

It’s why motorcycle riders aren’t friendly to most drivers

He plays a friend you would never want to have, with no loyalty. It’s unbelievable that Tom Selleck’s character would still keep doing anything for a louse that smears the NYPD.

I remember first seeing him in Once Upon A Time In America. He played a union boss.

I remember when the Hair movie adaptation came out. Never saw the play. Never saw the movie.
I figured it was some crap about dirtbag hippy dopers. No interest then or now.

What do YOU call it, then?

Some guy gets toasted by an INATTENTIVE CAR DRIVER and you call his CHOICE of transportation a derisive term?

Yeah, I’m sticking with jerk.

Anything further, though accurate, would be beneath the level of discourse expected and required on this forum.

Have the kind of life you deserve, FRiend. I hope the RMSF isn’t as bad as I’ve heard. Ticks can be BRUTAL!

Sorry FRiend, it was NOT just some innocent or anything otherwise comment. He was trying to elicit a response, and I am trying REALLY hard to avoid giving him what he wants.

I have had more than one friend actually KILLED by inattentive drivers. The most recent (3 years ago) was a guy waiting to turn left, IN A TURN LANE, that the moron in the car “didn’t see”. A full-dress RED Honda Goldwing with all the bells and whistles AND LIGHTS. At 4 in the afternoon.

I have little patience for folks like our OP. I’d like to take them on a ride on 2 wheels to demonstrate just how badly they are behaving.

Guy on motorcycle gets hit by guy in car. Was this really an “unexpected” death?

I wrote for 30 years, commuted, traveled, rallies, turned my own wrenches, saw the typical riders change from total enthusiasts to boutique shoppers with cashflow, jet skies, and bassboats and garage queens that saw barely the light of day...

I’ve seen motorcycle manuals regress from how to adjust chains, and make valves adjustments to cautioning phraseology advising owners to take their machines to a certified dealer mechanic and “do not drink the battery fluid.”

Car drivers are just as bad they don’t even see bikes or they don’t even look for that. That has always been a problem.

I almost got T-boned once by a truck pulling into a chicken joint and the only thing on the drivers mind was a bucket of chicken as I turned the wick up and maneuvered past his front end, missing me by inches...

Most motorcycle periodicals at one time or another express the following... and it’s a cautionary quote and one that is not only true but is taught in MSF training...

“There;are two kinds of riders, those who go down, and those who will go down.”

The term donorcycles is not surprising.

When I was in the military if you wanted to ride on the base you had to be qualified, and that required MSF certified training, proper safety gear, and verification of periodic follow on training.

I have come to the conclusion that motorcycles are very dangerous given the externals... but TBH I’ve had more accidents on my bicycle then on my motorcycles.

How many M/C owners don’t have any of that training? Plenty. And they might not know how to tighten their chains either.

I got off the bikes primarily because of my back and neck but also because there’s a lot of jerks on the road that are in small zippy little cars and they’re distracted, speeding, and not even paying attention.

That’s just the fact of the matter.

In the TV show Everwood he played a surgeon who moved his kids to a small town in the mountains of Utah after his wife died. He’d been a lousy father and husband, obsessed with work. RIP.
