Flag Day should not pass without recognizing Rick Monday.

My contribution to the day is being one of the volunteers who place 1,700 flags along the downtown streets of Redmond Oregon, that is known as Flag City.

One of the great plays in MLB history.

Big whoop. It’s not like it was a pride flag or anything important.

Haven’t thought of Rick Monday in years. Think he played with Dusty Baker if I remember correctly. Was he around with Steve Garvey, Ron Cey and Davey Lopes? Can’t remember.

His home run against the Expos in ‘81 to send the Dodgers to the World Series is up there, too.

My all time favorite player. I am done with the Dodgers and MLB, but the memories will stay. Rick Monday, Manny Mota, Davey Lopes . . . too many to list.

Excellent breakdown with Vin Scully announcing and an interview with Monday. More than ironic this was “presented by Budweiser”

Tough Dodgers teams. Remember Ron Cey being hit in the head with a pitch during a playoff game.

another good breakdown. Monday explains the crowd started singing “God Bless America,” soon after

Has nothing to do with the Dodgers or any ‘greatest play’ ranking,
but one of my favorites was Randy Johnson nailing that pigeon mid-flight.

Sucked for the pigeon of course, but still . . .

Yay Rick Monday.

First player ever drafted. By Charlie Finley, KC A’s.

Grew up in Santa Monica. Still pronounces Los Angeles with a hard g sometimes.

I remember seeing this, it was an awesome moment for America.

Didn’t Tommy John pitch for the Angels?

Tommy John was on the Dodgers in ‘76.

Ken Crosby (who?) was on the mound during the incident.

OT: Monday did a stint in Marine Corps Reserves.

Rick Monday was a good player. If he did that today, I have a feeling if he was playing today, he’d be cut the day after.

The Dodgers probably would not put up with that. That definitely was not in the spirit of diversity, inclusion, and equity (DIE).

The announcers were talking about the incident at last night's Dodgers game because it was Flag Day (although Rick Monday's rescue of the flag happened on April 25, 1976). Rick Monday was at the game and at one point the camera showed him.

They also talked about how, as a Dodger, he hit a game-winning home run in the 9th inning of the deciding NLCS playoff game in 1981 in Montreal, eliminating the Expos, and how he has been hated in Canada ever since. Whenever the Dodgers would cross the border to go to a game in Canada, the customs officials would give him a really hard time, all because of that home run.
