Two Sikh 7-Eleven workers who attacked a thief after he repeatedly targeted their store are under investigation for assault, police in California have said.
In a now-viral video, the workers are seen smacking the suspect with a stick after he entered the store in Stockton with a garbage can and began filling it with tobacco products from behind the counter.
The attempted theft on July 29 was allegedly the third time in two days the man had targeted the store. On a previous occasion, he tried to intimidate staff by claiming he had a handgun.
Despite widespread praise for the workers for defending the business, Stockton Police Department said they are now under investigation for assault. A robbery probe is also underway.
'It has been brought to our attention that a video of two 7-Eleven employees assaulting a robbery suspect has been circulating. We are aware of the incident and the investigation is ongoing,' a statement on Saturday said.
The witness who recorded the fracas has since praised the 'courageous' response of the workers. Police said the incident followed several thefts at the store by the same suspect.
On July 28 at 3.41am, staff at the 7-Eleven reported a man entered the store, 'went behind the counter, and threatened to shoot the victim if he intervened,' police said.
'The suspect then took several packs of cigarettes and other items and placed them in a large garbage bag before fleeing.'
The following day, at 12.27am, the same man returned and 'demanded money while simulating having a handgun'.
'The employee did not comply; therefore, the suspect grabbed several food items and placed them in a garbage bag before fleeing,' police said.

My thoughts exactly.
Nothing can be in your control.
This statement hits hard
Ah....but the video shows the thief repeatedly reaching for a knife in his right rear pocket and pulling it out, putting it back....
Turn the cameras off, shew the witnesses out and do what you have to do and then you go into Sargent Schultz mode, I know nothing, I see nothing!
The government will make a point of harshly cracking down on anyone who commits an act of vigilantism. But eventually the juries in these cases will start kicking out not guilty verdicts, then what?
Eventually those in the government will be on receiving end of vigilantism.
And the problem is?
As a juror, I will not convict anyone of any crime in connection with taking out the trash.
Then what? All trials reassigned to the courts in Washington,DC. The jurors are still on full pay. They get free lunches and breakfasts. They play “Bill of Rights Monopoly” for evening entertainment if sequestered.
“As a juror...”
These men have the right to be tried by a jury of their PEERS.
So with that said. Put 12 Sikhs on the jury. Need I say more?
How do they know he "simulated"?
Jury of peers?
Sikh and ye shall find.
I said when Roger Stone was on trial for being an associate of Donald Trump the jury of his peers should all look like Ted Knight in Caddyshack. Actually looked like a casting call for the remake of Barbershop.
The store owners are “minorities.”
Don’t have stores in NEGROID areas, just let them do without.
Did the victim report the crime? If not there’s no victim. You did then what did he say? “I was trying to rob them and they wouldn’t let me?”
That’s why I TRY to get on juries.
This is anarcho-tyranny, and cops who practice it should be subjected to it.
Keep on Backing the Blue
Cops in California make 6-figures, wait until they get to retirement after 20 years of service and then go out on disability making 90% of their salary, tax free.
I hope the silly Freeper who suggested on another thread this morning that we should have a national holiday for law enforcement shows up here.
It would be justice to see the thousands and thousands of traitorous Demonicrat kakistocrats tried, convicted, and sentenced to become one-time rope testers. And leave their carcasses to rot off the noose.
