TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The heartache won’t go away. Not anytime soon, anyway. Not for Florida State players and coaches who were driven to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff and play for another title.
The Seminoles had to settle for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, which followed a perfect regular season.
“Nobody can take that from us,” senior defensive back Jarrian Jones said.
The CFP selection committee dropped Florida State (13-0) from fourth to fifth and outside the four-team playoff, a move it justified because of star quarterback Jordan Travis’ season-ending broken leg. It prompted outrage from coach Mike Norvell and FSU administrators, and had state lawmakers crying out for answers.......
They’ve also tried to listen and advise players through upcoming decisions on their futures. Standout defensive end Jared Verse, running back Trey Benson and receiver Johnny Wilson are among those who have opted out of the Orange Bowl against Georgia (12-1) on Dec. 30. There could be more, although Norvell declined to discuss any juniors or seniors weighing choices.

I believe GA has the attitude that they want to prove they should have been in the CFP, unfortunately they have about zero chance of being named #1 no matter who wins as the victor will either be undefeated or had beat GA. But they can place #2 in the final polls.
I don’t much care for the Florida State Criminoles, but they got screwed................
I’m sure I’m not the first to suggest this, but as long as there are 5 major football conferences, do this:
All five major conference championship game winners qualify. F Notre Dame if they choose to remain independent.
Seed them 1-5.
Seeds 4 and 5 meet in a play-in game, bringing the total down to 4.
Those 4 play in a standard Final Four type format.
I think next year the field expands to 14...it will be a real playoff system. Though that’ll mean big fights over why #15 isn’t in the contest.
Mostly agree, however it should not be automatic for a 10-3 conference champion, maybe even an 11-2 if there are more undefeated or 1 loss teams “ahead” of them.
14 is WAY too many. That’s 3 extra games at least for the final 2, and possibly 4 extra games.
Why can’t they just do it like the FCS does?
Beat Georgia and we’ll see
How many players will sit out that game?
I was working at Virginia Tech when we went undefeated. Beamer told us “We have to win the last games with a statement or we won’t play for the championship”. Just winning wasn’t going to be good enough. FSU just barely got by in their last 2 games.
At least this year the Gators didn’t help their Strength of Schedule.
We’re gonna fight, fight, fight for FSU were gonna scalp em Seminoles. We’re gonna win, win, win and roll on down to make those goals. For FSU is on the warpath now and at the battles end we’re great. So fight, fight, fight for FSU, the Seminoles of Florida staaaaate! 😊

While I see what you’re saying, my objective is to MAKE it objective. Win your conference championship game. If you don’t, quit whining. Take opinion out of it.

Can they even say “Scalp ‘Em” anymore?
Georgia will crush FSU.
I wish they both could lose.
Bowls are such an entrenched tradition in major college football, that you can’t have a traditional playoff system like you have in FCS, Div. II and III.
