As I settle in for an uneventful NYE 2023 "celebration" I am humbly asking fellow FReepers who are well versed in the vices of (esp) sloth and gluttony to offer their own personal recommendations for good weekend killing movies. Many thanks in advance. Stay safe...my couch is safe.

I’d go with the whole series boxed set of McCloud.

At present I am about halfway through.

If you’ve got 6 hours to kill, Napoleon (2002) is a good flick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxtFNuialXY

My son brought us “The Equalizer” trilogy for Christmas. We'll ring in the New Year watching Denzel taking out the bad guys

I am watching old movies this entire week. THE CREEPING EYE, THIS ISLAND EARTH, DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS. Got hundred of them to chose from.

Daughters bought me the DVD Oppenheimer. An excellent movie for adults. All the rest released this year have been adult kiddie trash. Waiting for NAPOLEON on DVD!

***The moon babes have purple hair.***

I remember that from years ago! A Sir Lew Grade presentation I believe. Made for adults but safe enough for kids. An excellent import from England.

Three walls of the basement are movies. There are 14 double sided bookcases about 90% filled in the middle.

We made an agreement when we got married, he will not argue with me over my book habit, I will say nothing about his movie habit.

And we lived happily ever after. :)

Westerns: The Searchers (original with John Wayne), Silverado, Tombstone.

Old War films: Run Silent, Run Deep, or Pork Chop Hill (probably the best and most accurate Korean War movie ever made). Lawrence of Arabia, Khartoum, The Guns of Navarone.

Classic films: Casablanca

Most newer movies are crap.

I’d recommend “Citizen Kane”, “The Ten Commandments” and “Ben Hur”.

Ok.

A bit out there.

There was a tv show called "Grimm" it ran for six season and it had a proper ending which is kind of rare.

Police officer in Portland learns that he is one of the few people with the ability to see the monsters living among us.

It has it's flaws but is a fun ride. Mostly non-woke. Frequently funny. Lots of hand to hand combat.

Monster of the week to start but develops an overarching story line.

Should keep you out of trouble until Tuesday.

My family is staying at my mom’s house for a couple days. She and her husband winter in Florida so they’re not here. He transfers their internet account to Florida so we don’t have internet or cable.

He’s also got this bizarre complex tv system with multiple remotes. I’ve never been able to figure it out. I just tried to put a dvd in. Messed with it for 1/2 hour. No go.

My mom doesn’t even understand the system. I guess no Blues Brothers for us.

You’d be better off reading a good book.

LOTR’s would be a good marathon. But for a good movie with a lot of action watch either “Nobody” or “Old Henry”. Another good one is “The Marksman” with Liam Neeson.

https://www.amazon.com/Old-Henry-Tim-Blake-Nelson/dp/B09HSY9KV6

My hubby likes action movies so over the years I’ve become to like them as well. We enjoy critiquing their gun skills and discussing what we would do in such situations as the hero finds himself in. LOL!

Sorry, but I have no Hallmark holiday specials recommendations.
