Bizarre: NTSB Chair Says Cockpit Voice Recorder in Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX Was “Completely Overwritten” (VIDEO)

During an emergency press briefing, Jennifer Homendy, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), disclosed that the cockpit voice recorder on the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX, which experienced a door plug loss mid-flight, had been completely overwritten.

Homendy said, “The cockpit voice recorder was completely overwritten. There is nothing on the cockpit voice recorder.”

She continued, “There was a lot going on, on the flight deck and on the plane. It’s a very chaotic event. The circuit breaker for the CVR (cockpit voice recorder) was not pulled. The maintenance team went out to get it, but it was right at about the two-hour mark.”

Per Reuters:

The cockpit voice recorder data on the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 jet which lost a panel mid-flight on Friday was overwritten, U.S. authorities said, renewing attention on an industry call for longer in-flight recordings.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair Jennifer Homendy said on Sunday no data was available on the cockpit voice recorder because it was not retrieved within two hours – when recording restarts, erasing previous data.

The U.S. requires cockpit voice recorders to log two hours of data versus 25 hours in Europe for planes made after 2021.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has since 2016 called for 25-hour recording on planes manufactured from 2021.

It was also reported that the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9’s warning lights went off three times within the last month, and one of those times was just one day before the door plug incident occurred.

The NTSB reported Alaska Airlines even restricted the 737 MAX from flying to Hawaii.

Looks like the crew pulls a circuit breaker.

This wasn’t done.

Why?

This is not an area where pilots would get a lot of training. A pilot in this situation might be very much averse to doing anything to CVR because it would look like he was trying to conceal something.

So these folks left the thing alone. It’s what most would do.

Yep, there are a few circuit breakers that are routinely pulled when the aircraft is shut down. One is the clicker on the altimeters. It gently bumps the altimeter because it is such a sensitive device that works on air pressure alone and “sticks”. The others are the CVR and FDR. As mentioned, the CVR records as long as the breaker is is. Older aircraft used a continuous magnetic tape to record the cockpit and were generally only good for about 30 minutes until the tape was overwritten. Newer aircraft use a digital model that has a longer record time.

“Does EVERY plane have a handy switch to disable the federally mandated flight recorder?”

It’s kind of like the disable switch in Jeffery Epstein’s cellblock.

A 2 hour loop? That’s ridiculous, especially given that todays CVRs are digital memory cards and could store weeks or months of CVR data.

The last time people got sucked out was 35 years ago…
In the early morning hours of February 24, 1989, Flight 811 was traveling from Honolulu, Hawaii to Sydney, Australia with a stop-over in Auckland, New Zealand.

While the Boeing 747-122 was still ascending from Honolulu, it was suddenly rocked by a loud sound between 22,000 and 23,000 feet in the air, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Seconds later, a cargo door toward the front of the aircraft ripped off, taking with it a massive chunk of the plane's fuselage and leaving a gaping hole in the cabin and cargo area, according to the FAA.

Nine passengers in that section of the plane were pulled out into the night sky, the AP reported; at least one of them was sucked into an engine.

There is 2 hours of storage on the unit. it records over everything more than 1 hour, 59 minutes and 59 seconds old. The only way to stop if recording is to disable it. That means pulling the breaker.

We don’t save 25 hours of recordings because the pilot’s UNION objects. Plain and simple.

Continuous loop. It runs constantly, overwriting as it goes.

Looks more like the hull failed than a door simply popping out.

“Looks like the crew pulls a circuit breaker. This wasn’t done. Why?”

Perhaps they were distracted by having a GAPING HOLE in the cabin?
