Legendary Hollywood gems like the “Wizard Of Oz” and the Christmas classic “It’s A Wonderful Life” are both getting what director and writer Kenya Barris is calling a “diverse” reboot.
Speaking to Variety at the Sundance Film Festival, Barris confirmed he’s working on scripts for both films and giving the Judy Garland 1939 movie a new look with a story told from a “different point of a view.”
“The original ‘Wizard of Oz’ took place during the Great Depression and it was about self-reliance and what people were going through,” Barris told the outlet.
“I think this is the perfect time to switch the characters and talk about what someone imagines their life could be,” he added. “It’s ultimately a hero’s journey, someone thinks something’s better than where they’re at, and they go and realize that where they’re at is where they should be.”
“I want people to be proud and happy about where they’re from,” Barris continued. “But I want the world to take a look at it and I hope that will come through.”
The “Black-ish” creator also talked about his remake of the 1946 Frank Capra classic starring Jimmy Stewart and said he plans to tell the story but with a “person of color” instead.
“I feel like Christmas movies are amazing and I think the idea of taking something that has that long of a history and a tale behind it and putting an amazing piece of talent to tell that story,” Barris said.
“It’s a guy who’s trying to help out his community and things are going to turn around on him,” he added. “I think that’s the perfect story to tell for a person of color — Black or brown — to get into that because our communities have some issues and someone trying to help that community out. I think that’s the perfect vehicle to tell that story from.”
During his appearance last year on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon,” Barris spoke a bit about one of the upcoming projects he was working on with “diverse” characters that was a twist on the “Wizard of Oz” story.
“I think that this is the best time to turn a mirror on society because we need to see ourselves, and I want to do it with diverse characters,” Barris said.
Barris told Fallon his version of Dorothy is a girl who “lives in Inglewood, and someone comes up and she ends up in Underhood, which is right outside of Oz, and it takes place from there.”
“I wanted to make people think, but also make them feel good, and also make people feel seen who hadn’t felt seen,” he added.
Disney should spend a billion bucks remaking all the classics with black homosexual transvestites. And then when they flop, charge people $1000 per day to go to Disney World and Disneyland to pay for it. Good business model! Heh, heh.
A woke remake of “It’s a Wonderful Life” shows Potter winning and everyone miserable.

Didn't they already try that once with The Wiz? As for It's A Wonderful Life it should be left alone.
But Hollywood never learns... and the diversity craze currently fashionable will burn itself out when they've lost enough money. Or go out of business.
Disney is doing the same thing with the X-Files, the TV show from the 90s.
I didn’t realize hollywood had this much money left to waste on woke crap no one wants to see.
So Dorothy's uncle and Auntie Em will be crack heads, and she will be preyed upon by the neighborhood drug dealers, as well as worrying about being killed by a stray bullet while on the way to school? That will certainly make Somewhere Over the Rainbow much more moving.
Post of the day, can I get a second?
Have any of these afrocentric “I hate whitey” shows made any money? I remember the hype around Black Panther. Keep it up hollywood. I’ll send some dead roses for your grave.
That song will be about a homosexual relationship.
Puh-lease! It's already been made ... TWICE!*
*: which is two times too many...
For instance, instead of having George Bailey own a Building and Loan, he will run a halfway house for people released from jail and reintroducing into society. Potter will be a bad cop trying to shut down the halfway house and send everyone back to jail, or something.
Bailey wishes he'd never been born, and suddenly the neighborhood is a shambles, gangs everywhere, people locked behind bars in their own homes afraid to go out, and Potter patrolling the streets in a SWAT armored car looking for curfew violators, or something.
In Oz, D'oroquesha runs away from home and encounters a wannabe rap singer named Marvel Marv who's living out of his van down by the river. Marv tells D'oroquesha to go home and wait until she's older to face the world.
On the way home, D'oroquesha is caught up in a race riot and is knocked out by a rock that was thrown by an unseen rioter. She wakes up and finds herself in a white neighborhood where all the black people are slaves who are hiding from her. Suddenly, the Good Queen of the North appears and tells her that she killed the Evil Queen of the East who had enslaved all of the blacks, who are now free.
D'oroquesha tells the Good Queen that she just wants to go home, but learns that only the great Wizard has the power to send her home. Along the way she befriends a teacher, a policeman, and a social worker...

Now that’s a remake I’d pay to see ! I just hope the Hollywood sleazeballs keep their woke hands off remaking The Sting.
Movies are meant to be escapist entertainment. No one goes to the movies to be lectured to or instructed.
Was it Sam Goldwyn or Louis B Mayer who said, if you want to send a message, Western Union!
Making “It’s A Wonderful Life” “diverse” would utterly ruin it!!
“It’s A Wonderful Life” is a 1940s classic that deserves to be enjoyed as is!!
The same applies to “The Best Years of our Lives”!
Jane Long:"They'll probably make her white."
No problem either way - just get Nancy after her lost weekends.
Make it about poor white Southern cotton sharecroppers who owe their home and entire living to a large corporate owned plantation/agribusiness entity.
Think that would sell any more than another black on purple lesbian love story with oprah the junkie in it. Random memories of the real crap all this was— providing the basis for an entire generation of “downtrodden” minorities with many more opportunities they NEVER took to get ahead- instead relying on demonrat politics and re-distribution. Because of course that is MUCH easier than actual work, or in the case of Dr. Claudine Gay—doctoral thesis largely stolen work from a real academic from... Mississippi. Amazing. White liberals at work repopulating the Yard.
I do hope that after putting huge amounts of money into these projects by Kenya Barris, everyone loses their shirts. Sense these people are not about to learn from Disney, Bud Light and Sports Illustrated they should at least see a significant portion of their wealth disappear.
I have all 3 Equalizer movies. Denzel Washington plays a great role. It's new, fresh material and well executed. I like the Iron Eagle series too. Again, new material and well executed.
Up next:
A black version of “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie wants a Glock for Christmas...................
