Girl Scouts Under Attack From Diet-Obsessed Moms Making ‘Inappropriate’ Comments as They Try to Sell Beloved Cookies

Girl Scout cookie season is back — and so are the diet-obsessed moms who can’t help but make negative and potentially damaging comments, turning what’s supposed to be a deliciously fun learning experience for the girls into a festival of food shaming, one expert warns.

Don’t be one of those people — toxic comments about food and diet could hurt your kid, said Oona Hanson, a parent coach and eating disorder specialist.

Launched from humble beginningin 1917 as a way for troops to finance their activities, Girl Scout cookie season has increasingly come under fire for promoting unhealthy eating and even diabetes, with detractors reportedly feeling more than free to share their opinions with the well-meaning youngsters, Hanson said. “I think most people agree that’s not appropriate to say to a table of young Girl Scouts,” she added.

I would never be one of those people. Instead I always tell the little girls that they are part of a murderous cabal of baby killers intent on abortion anytime.

I also tell them Joe Biden will come to sniff them later.

There is nothing wrong with any cookies, health wise.

There is only something wrong with persons who have no self control when eating them. Such persons have the choice to avoid cookies, not to condem the cookies or people who want them.

I don’t agree with that. Some foods have very bad ingredients.

Archdiocese of Baltimore:

Girl Scout link to Planned Parenthood confusing

“What a blessing young Theresa Hanntz of Metuchen, N.J., is to the prolife movement (CR, Feb. 8). However, it is not surprising to hear of the controversy her ideas created with Girl Scouts. It may not be widely known how connected GSUSA is to Planned Parenthood. An easy “Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood” search on the internet will reveals many articles about the relationships that exist. This is very sad, for an organization that began with such strong Godly roots to be affiliated with the world’s largest promoter and provider of abortion; and one that has such influence on our young ladies (in many Catholic schools). How confusing for the girls to receive such a mixed message from the program; promoting strong female leadership and an organization that does so much to harm women. The activities sponsored by Girl Scouts throughout the country are very disturbing; Girl Scout endorsements of a feminist conference given by Planned Parenthood including lesbian, gay, transgender issues, Girl Scouts partnering with Planned Parenthood sex education programs, Brownies (ages 6-8) leadership manual suggesting visits to Planned Parenthood clinics as acceptable option for “health education,” to name a few. This is a real problem as Girl Scouts CEO Kathy Cloninger professed on NBC’s Today Show that many troops have alliances with Planned Parenthood and that those relationships would continue. This is something that parents need to be aware of. Many of my friends with daughters have chosen to step away from Girl Scouts as this is a conflict of interest with their Christian faith. Many families across the country have opted for other character and virtue building girls’ clubs like American Heritage Girls (which began because of this issue) or Little Flowers (a Knights of Columbus sponsored program). “

Walmart sells their own store brand of several popular GS cookie flavors for just over $2 each. They are much fresher than GS cookies too.

Very often the “bad” ingredients are only bad in excess. Our bodies easily take care of a little bit of guilty food pleasures. The problem for some people is they set no limits on themselves.

Same here.

Not mention they are highly overpriced, and the GS makes a teeny profit from each box.

I understand that argument, and I don’t begrudge anyone from taking that position.

On other hand, when I get hit up by the daughter of a friend or a relative to buy the damned cookies, I go ahead and buy a couple boxes. Am I doing this because I agree with or support everything Girl Scouts USA says or does? No, absolutely not. It’s just that my feeling is that I’m not going punish a kid for politics which are beyond her control. Again, though, I have no quarrel with those who, in good conscience, feel that they take the opposite approach

That used to be about my attitude, as long as the kid came to me I'd support by buying whatever they were selling. A guy brought at work tried to help his daughters by having a signup sheet at work and I told him I'd only buy directly from his children, he brought the kids into work to hit me up and I bought.

But now I say I can't support what that organization stands for. Just recently my daughter's Catholic school was supporting an event by the Girl Scouts, I asked the principal how our antiabortion church could support them? The school cancelled the event.

Maybe some 5-6 years ago I walked away from the Girl Scouts at a grocery store after they were rude to me when I declined to buy any cookies.
