Because it’s almost impossible to change a leftist’s mind, all you can do is reveal and revel in his loopiness.
Do you remember the old days when you could have a conversation with a friend and, if you disagreed, you knew it was because he didn’t have all the facts? So, you politely filled in the holes of his knowledge and expected him to agree with you wholeheartedly.
I’ve found the safest route, though, and it’s a lot of fun: Feign ignorance and surprise that they are so well-informed. “Wow, how do you know so much?”
The real trick is not to let them know that you know more than they do. (This may be difficult, but complete silence seems to encourage them.) It is a monumental requirement but studied strategies can make the results worthwhile.
“So, what did he do?” will elicit hilarious responses. Often, its, “Well, it’s the man—he should be in jail for his lies and what he’s done to the people.”
“Really, tell me more, where did you find all this out?” (The occasional “you are so clever” never hurts.) In the rare event that your wisdom didn’t sway his original opinion, you both ordered another drink and started talking about the weather.
Well, those days are gone.
Today, particularly if you swerve marginally towards reality, you need to be careful in what has become a dangerous minefield (or, as I like to think of it, “a mindfield.”)
A leftist friend regaled me today with the reasons Trump should be in jail and how his “criminal acts of unlawful activities and concealing damaging information from voters” almost a decade ago were reprehensible, all leading to the conclusion that the jailhouse key should be discarded forever.

The best thing to do is just ignore them. Or try a nonpolitical topic. Nothing ruins party or an evening out like trying to educate a leftist and having to listen to talking points and slogans.
Hitting then over the head with a blunt object also works.
Every Single Time that only results in blame leveled at the sane for opposing insanity, for doing better empirically than the insane, and for even existing as a point of comparison.
For instance, leftists used to defend the USSR on the grounds that it’s the US and it’s evils that cause Soviet life to suck. Similarly all-Democrat Detroit would be perfect if Republicans elsewhere would stop preventing Democrats from implementing paradise. Shooting gallery Chicago is because people elsewhere own guns. The fact that people elsewhere don’t shoot each other makes them evil and racist, not a model. And so forth.
It doesn’t work with the trolls here, they just get louder, nastier and farther afield from the actual subject in question, just more shouting and smoke and mirrors.

You should avoid discussions with them. Reveal nothing to them, because in a shorter time than you can imagine, they will become informants, as happens in all societies undergoing what we’re about to. What do you have to talk to them about? Your preps and food storage? The guns you have? Political opinions? You’re just talking to a future Kommissar. And you have no more chance of changing them and they’re thinking than you do by having a rational conversation with a child molester, or a drug addict. There is nothing to be gained with having a meaningful discussion with them.
You can use lawfare against them. They have established that truth does not matter so go all in.

You cannot reason with someone who did not use reason to arrive at their position in the first place.
I found that the toughest thing to do is change someone’s world view (politics).
