How Secure are FReepmails?
Self | 07/30/02 | harrowup

Posted on 07/30/2002 11:37:59 AM PDT by harrowup

Serious charges continue to surface at lp.com concerning the privacy of FReepmail.

Some continue to opine and/or charge that they were banned because of something they wrote in FReepmail.

1. Who has access to authentication codes and passwords besides JR and John?

2. Do any moderators, n.e.c. have the need to read mail which is reported to be obscene or do they rely on the person reporting the abuse?

3. If FReepmail has ever been viewed without permission is there a log of such?

4. If so, what possible reason can be advanced to justify such?

I saw that huge thread in here yesterday re: LP.com so I took a surf over there and was amazed to find an entire subsection of that site devoted to discussion of FR.

It was mainly dominated by the folks you just mentioned, and most of their posts were full of bitterness and vitriol directed at FR. I read through most of it, then said to myself,

"Self, it seems that all these folks who are complaining and whining about FR were probably banned for breaking the FR rules. And now they are hijacking another site in order to complain and drive wedges of discontent between Freepers who also visit LP.com."

The point being that it's Jim and John's forum and they make the rules. If you can't abide by them, surely you can find another place to visit online.

John - thanks for a great site. And personally, I LIKE THE NEW FORMAT.

"[...]And now they are hijacking another site in order to complain and drive wedges of discontent between Freepers who also visit LP.[org]."

Worth repeating.

LP.org isn't the enemy.

(BTW, I'm only the software guru. It's all Jim's site. But thanks anyway. :-)

"LP.org isn't the enemy."

You don't really mean that...:o]
The "Others" are sure either you or Jim or Bob J or diotima or me or all have made an orchestrated attempt to destroy LP. And this strategic pre-emptive strike was done by simply setting the record straight and wishing LP well by all involved in the massacre.

They look like a good forum and they were smart to put the FR/AF wars in restricted topic.

You are doing the right thing I guess, by putting the rumor to bed...and I didn't intend any harm towards Harrowup.....I just get sick of those you mentioned beating a dead horse.

I didn't intend any harm towards Harrowup.

I didn't take your comment as off-putting, let alone offensive, and I have no idea what Sir Gawain meant by his crack

I wanted the air cleared and John showed up with the assurance that reasonable folks can accept without fear.

The way the drama queens from afconistan work they have already determined that John and I worked this together simply because I didn't flag John, JR or the Admin Moderator.

Everything has to be a conspiracy against them because of the truth they have gleaned from treacherous former movers and shakers whose recollections are seriously flawed...and that is as nicely as I will put it.

Too bad those FORMER movers and shakers don't reveal their TRUE agenda....kinda like hell hath no fury like a FORMER mover and shaker scorned.

LOL! Take the path of least resistance... You and I have this secret "thing" worked out (through the "insecure" Freepmail system)...

vs...

I have FR Policy/Q&A on my sidebar.

Nothing is totally secure online.

If you are worried about this, it makes me wonder what you write in your freepmails.

I was not and am not concerned with FReepmail. The question was intended to squelch the rumor and innuendo emanating from anti-freeper sites like liberty post.org. I trust FReepmail more than I do any web-based mail; there has never been a single verifiable report of tampering.

The only complaint I ever had about FR mail was that we didn't retain copies of mail sent. Then, oddly enough, that changed and we were able to retain mail. Whew.

I am not concerned with anyone reading my FReepmail either, since about half of what I ever wrote turned up in the hands of afconistan'ers. And THAT wasn't John or Jim's fault.

There's a copy function? Ding-dab it; now I can't pretend I don't remember writing that the old-line anti-freepers, aka the hamsters, to include allgall, the maggot and the lizard have all developed real psychoses...listening to a worm eating bird all day will do that to nuthatches.
