Does the Ionic Breeze really work? [VANITY]

Does the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image really work? The Hepa-filter thing is not working well and replacemt filters are expensive. $350+ is a lot to try it out and send it back if it doesn't work. Two smokers in the house. Any FReepers tried it? All my "review" searches turn into commercials. THANKS

Yes it does. Its very quiet, cheap to run, and has no rplacement parts. While a monster HEPA filter may clean a room faster, they sound like jet engines.

YEs it works. Before I had one my allergies went nuts, now they are completely under control. Iwould look at get one from Ebay--the Sharper Image sells ones that have damaged boxes, etc, on ebay. Mine was I think $150 and the only reason it wasnt' first run is because the box had a small dent in the corner. It works beautifully and I saved $200.

If you want to read product reviews, go to epinions.com. I used to write for them--it's a very helpful website of people that have the items writing reviews of them.

Spouse and I bought 2 when we were both smoking. They work very well but if you are heavy duty smokers you'll find yourselves having to soak & scrub the collection plates every few days. It is amazing the stuff they take out of the air. we've had'em over 2 years, and they work much better, longer, since we quit smoking about 3 months ago.

Judging how often I clean the filters---at least once a week-- It must be working. I smoke and remove serious gunk from them.

2 smoker household and we have one. We use it in the bedroom most of the time, where we do not smoke, and put it out in the living room if we're having company(we have a big house; if we could afford it, I'd get another one). The bedroom smells like outdoors and no stuffy noses, even on the driest winter nights. We have to clean the collection plates approximately every 7-10 days, and also get build-up of dirt on the outside of the thing. The clean-up is worth the effort, considering, as you stated, the cost of constantly purchasing filters. We also have 3 dogs and a cat & it helps clear the air of all their dander. Also, when they say it is quiet, they mean it! Ours starts to make a hissing sound when it needs to be cleaned.

In short, they're expensive to start out, but the long run benefits make this the best air cleaner we've ever owned.

You should demand a commission from the Sharper Image. I just bought one ($145 plus shipping plus tax at their Ebay site) thanks to THIS thread.

We don't smoke but my wife is pregnant and sbe should benefit from this.

Funny you should mention this. I had H.O.S. (husband over shoulder, lurking on FR) while I was checking on responses. He showed me the new Radio Shack ad that seems to have the same type of machine (from Honeywell), for $199 or so. However, I see that the spokeman for Radio Shack, Shaq O'Neill has gone to the dark side and joined Nation of Islam. Good friends with Louis Farrakhan. Now a moral dilemma...maybe I can purchase somewhere else?

My brother's wife is pregnant as well and they considered getting one for when the baby is born. They decided against it. They want the baby exposed early to normal household germs otherwise might not develop normal resistances.

Better Homes and Gardens reported that results of their tests showed it wasn't any more effective than cheaper units. We've had one for over a year and it helps with my husband's asthma symptoms. I bought ours when they were running the buy one get the second one for half price and sent the second one to my grandson. I think they still have this offer. The grandson believes it helps his allergies. The unit is quiet and starts making a little noise when it needs cleaning.

The Radio Shack variety has a fan...makes noise. I just went over to e-bay and ordered one - a quadra compact - it's a refurbished item, and with shipping is about half the retail price.
