Nathan Tabor is A Young Jesse Helms -- 5th District, NC
National Liberty Journal ^ | Dec/Jan Newsletter | Dr. Jerry Falwell

Dr. Jerry Falwell, Publisher, National Liberty Journal

I'm taking the unusual step of informing our readers about one very special 30-year-old candidate for Congress in North Carolina. His name is Nathan Tabor. Son of an ordained Baptist minister, a committed Christian active in his local church, a dynamic young leader – I am convinced Nathan Tabor is a young champion who can make a true difference for our values in Washington.

That’s why I recently committed to Nathan that I will pray for him and personally assist his campaign. While the actual election is one year away, and our ministries cannot support the candidacy of any prospective leader, I am personally, as one tax-paying citizen, very excited that such a fine young man feels the call of God to run for the North Carolina 5th Congressional seat in the U. S. House of Representatives.

Nathan Tabor has helped build a successful family business in Kernersville, N.C. Revival Soy has over 130 employees and is one of the fastest growing businesses in western North Carolina.

More importantly though, Nathan Tabor is a committed Christian – active in his local church and dedicated to serving God through his time, talents and energy.

Nathan and his family have long been strong supporters of conservative faith-based organizations like Tim and Beverly LaHaye’s Concerned Women For America. Nathan has worked hard on evangelistic outreach efforts in his community through the Harvest Crusade and a community men’s Bible study.

On the issues, Nathan Tabor is a rock-solid conservative – unflinchingly pro-life, for lower taxes, strongly supportive of traditional family values and for a strong national defense. Nathan Tabor will go to Congress and stand with President Bush.

Nathan is running in an open seat Republican primary and the primary election will be held next spring.

For information on this young man, contact Nathan’s campaign at www.nathantaborforcongress.com, or e-mail Nathan directly at Nathan@taborforcongress.com.

I'll let his campaign know that he has some questions to answer. Maybe we can even schedule a time to get him into a live thread.

This is starting to get silly.

This thread has now been hijacked...

Send Vernon to DC and watch the Democraps squirm.

This has been Tabor's campaign all along: Lots of noise, not much substance. His campaign literature is deceitful at best. I smell a staunch equivocator, firm as warm gelatin on every issue.

No, not really hijacked. So far in the 5th district, we have Ed Powell (lousy campaigner), Ed Broyhill (a jerk), Virginia Foxx (a politico; semi-RINO), Jay Helvey (neuvo-conservative at best), Vernon Robinson (the black Jesse Helms), and Nate Tabor (the young Jesse Helms).

I'm looking for substance. I'm tired of cliches and one-liners. And I want somebody to work to earn a vote that's available right now. Given that this is the premier conservative forum on the web, I believe this to be the time and place for such an effort. ... Though maybe back to the chat room, admittedly.

The only way to truly evaluate a candidate is by looking at his voting record and his sources of campaign contributions. Maybe something he says can be brought onto the table, but not if it is from a major media quote that is out of context.

The only two with public records are Mrs. Foxx and Mr. Robinson.

Both vote conservatively.

Mrs. Foxx has accepted contributions from NCPride (a gay lobby) but says she will not do so again.

Mr. Robinson has accepted money from small contributors, and so far, there have not been any reports that show contributions from Liberal Groups.

My friend at World Newspapers says Helvey's and Broyhill's contributions, primarily personal loans are also clean so far.

The other candidates are "unknowns" (in terms of verified political positions), with the exception of Jay Helvey. Mr. Helvey has a reputation, among the blue hairs, of being a good business man.
I will get copies of there campaign finance filings the next chance I get to share with you all.

NCSteve,

I read your message and decided to do some research. Nathan Tabor has over 80 pastors on a steering committee. Has been endorsed by Mike Farris, the Madison Project, Sandy Rios, Beverly LeHaye, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Bob Jones III, the past president of NC Right to Life, past president of Lutherans for Life, have over 15 gun stores on a steering committee.

Are you looking at the same Nathan Tabor? Because what I found in doing research is that this "30 Year Old Kid" is really a YOUNG JESSE HELMS!

I don't live in the district, however, I am going to try my best to help this young man. It takes alot of courage and motivation to run for office.

I see him being a great help to my Congressman, Walter Jones! We need more men and women of God in office.

Ok, so you are a seminar poster (to borrow one from Rush). That's fair enough.

However, I know Vernon Robinson personally and know him to be a stauch, unbending conservative. All I have seen from Tabor is some pretty non-descript blather and some pretty devious implications in his campaign literature. All my political contacts say it is pretty obvious Tabor is being "handled" and no one can get a grip on exactly where he stands. As devout as I am and as much as I agree with your position with regard to establishing men and women of faith in political seats, just asserting his devotion and dropping some names won't be good enough.

Tabor will need to give us some facts and salient positions before he can expect much support from anyone in this forum. I have received a couple of mailings from Tabor and seen some third-party assessments and as far as I can discern, there is no substance. Conversely, Vernon Robinson's positions are a matter of public record.

Hope this makes things more clear. Conservatives are tired of being sold down the river by people who appear to have good intentions before the election. Falwell and Robertson aren't exactly faultless sources of political reference. Too many of their guys turned out to be either unelectable or jelly-spined once they did get elected. If Tabor wants hard-core political support from conservatives, he has to put up or shut up.

NCSteve,

I have gotten Vernon's mail pieces also. Is he going to be a good Congressman because "Jesse Helms is back and he's Black?" You talk so much about substain and then you talk about Vernon. From what I have seen the two don't go together. I have done some research on Vernon. He idea of running for office involves attacking others and being radical.

I called Nathan's office and had him fax me his mailers.

One was a intro piece. Who he was, etc. A nice FLUFFY piece I agree.

The second was a TABOR plan -- Taxpayer's Bill of Rights -- a very deep insight into his policy statement on taxes, IRS, inheritance tax and 2/3 majority to raise taxes. Then I visited his website where he goes into further detail.

The third piece was a 2nd amendment piece. There was ALOT of substain that politicians won't normally say. He is for all bans against semi-automatic weapons! A NO-NO for politicians.

On his website he goes into detail on his positions.

I agree with you completely that Falwell, Robertson, etc don't matter one bit. I hope you will agree that Jack Kemp, Alan Keyes, etc don't matter one bit.

So, from my research if Nathan is being "handled" it is by someone who is keeping him on message, on a very tight Christian, conservative message. A positive one at that. He doesn't have anything negative to say about other candidates.

I see you are from Stokes. It really impressed me to see Nathan has six offices in the 5th District. This kid wants to reach the voters. Here is the link to the one located in Stokes -- http://www.taborforcongress.com/king.html

You are absolutely right, NC Steve. Mr. Robinson is a "staunch, unbending conservative". I watched him in City Alderman meetings on the government channel when I lived up there, and he always stood up for self-responsibility, and property rights.

I agree, too, that the only platform Nathan seems to have is "I'm a Christian". But best I can tell, all of the candidates are Christians.

I checked the state BOE (Board of Elections) web site and the next filing deadline is Jan 31, 2004. The last one was July 31, 2003. So I think we'll have to wait until then to get the campaign finance info.

On the issue of finance, it has just occurred to me that Vernon is the only one who does not have any family money to put into the campaign. That says a lot, too.

There are a lot of questions on this thread for you to answer, please. You might want to read the whole thread, but ignore the after-too-much-wine-craving-a-soy-bar postings around post #11.

In the first mailing I got from Tabor, he gave his biography (carefully avoiding mention of his age, BTW) and went on to imply that he was being endorsed for the position by a number of prominent GOP leaders. It was the exact language of the implications that made me suspicious. Also, there was not a single issue-related statement in that mailer. All he said was that he was a conservative.

In the second mailer, he once again carefully avoided any mention of his age and included a picture with several people in it. No one in the photo was identified and there was a large variation in ages. I had to ask a political consultant I know to identify him for me. I thought the person in the photo who I eventually came to know as Tabor was about fifteen years old. This mailer extended the insinuations of the first, but went on to say that he didn't actually have the endorsements of any of these GOP and conservative leaders but that he just knows they would endorse him if they had a chance. To be honest, I actually began to suspect Tabor was a spoof candidate at this point. Think about it, some kid that looks to be fifteen years old and thinks that wishing for major endorsements is the same as having them? What would you think? Once again, this mailer was completely content-free as far as issues go.

As for Vernon, step to any Robinson thread and you will find his positions on just about every major issue of the day enumerated in great detail. I will try to find the last mailing I got from Vernon, which was a bulleted list with his exact positions on about thirty different issues and post it on FR. As for your comment about Vernon's persona, you are indicating that you are another that just doesn't get it. The things Vernon says are not an act. He walks the walk as well as he talks the talk. He isn't "acting like" anything. Those are the things he believes, sometimes to his own detriment. Is he arrogant? Absolutely. Is he a sometimes pain in the rear end? Positively. Is he a dedicated, unswerving constitutional libertarian conservative? You better believe it. From the top of his head to the tips of his toes.

Vernon has stood in the fire and come through undiverted. Vernon has stood up to the combined might of the entire liberal establishment in NC in ways most people don't even comprehend. Most importantly, Vernon has withstood the concerted onslaughts of the jelly-spined, limp-wristed GOP establishment in NC and still keeps going. When Nathan Tabor can say that, then he will have earned some serious attention.

Vernon's the man! Hope he can pull it off, but there is a lot of money against him.

Is there, or is there not a run-off in NC...Is the target 40 something % or 50% to avoid one?

I hate to say this -- but you are not honest. The second mailer was the TABOR Plan -- Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. It was all about taxes and his stances on the issues.

The third mailer was all about 2nd amendment rights and his stances on the issues.

Please be honest if you wish to post things.

So, from my research if Nathan is being "handled" it is by someone who is keeping him on message, on a very tight Christian, conservative message. A positive one at that. He doesn't have anything negative to say about other candidates.

How do you define "positive" message. What a liberal term! Damning with faint praise should not be confused with infusing a positive message. Rather it is simply the Southern Democrat skill of smiling broadly and politely while inserting your blade. Hardly a conservative trait.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. There are enough inconsistencies in the information being propagated by the Tabor campaign, (who are cultivating a squeaky-clean image), that you know that there is something wrong. No one is going to spend the time or effort investigating this campaign, but instincts will drive people in a different direction. That's why our only option is to go back to NC Steve's and Tax Relief's points. Namely, that talk is cheap - look for the track record.
