[Vanity] Research on Maryland (MD-08) GOP Candidates?
self
Posted on 02/26/2004 10:46:55 AM PST by kevkrom
I know I'm getting started late, but do any Maryland (or in fact any) FReepers have information and/or opinions on the candidates running on the GOP primary ballot on Tuesday, March 2? We have a Senate election this year, and Montogomery County (District 8) also needs a Republican to run against Van Hollen for the US House.
Information on local candidates would also be appreciated.
TOPICS: Maryland; State and Local; U.S. Congress; U.S. Senate
KEYWORDS: gop; maryland; md08; montgomerycounty; primary

No. I went to the RNC and Maryland websites hoping to find something but so far no luck. This seems to be a common thing for Maryland. I never know who is running until I am almost at the voting booth. It is hard to find some place that gives you background on our candidates.

Do you have any links for these sites?
Also, I hate voting for Judges when I don't know what party they are from. So, I normally vote for no one. Some crappy democratic process we have.
To: beachn4fun
Hope this helps:
President: George W Bush
US Senator: Ray Bly; Earl Grodon;Dorothy Jennings:James Kodak;Eileen Martin;EJ Pipkin;John Stafford;Corrogan Vaughn;Gene Zarwell
Congree (District 06): Roscoe Bartlett;Scott Rolle
Judge: Vicki Ballou-Watts;Brenda Clark;Dana Levitz;David Saltzman;Susan Souder;John Turnbull
Delegates to Convention: Tim Brooks;Samie Conyers; George Edwards;James Harkins;Koreen Hughes
Alternate Delegates: Richard Hug;David Lenhart;Tricia Wolfe
The bolded ones are the ones I am voting for. The judges were recommended by Erlich, and the delegates are Bush delegates.

Curious as to why Pipkin for Senate. I just got my sample ballot and recognized none of the names, so any info is helpful.

In the 1st district, I'm supporting Colburn against RINO Gilchrest:
Gilchrest has a long history of supporting gun control, and other liberal crap like GWB's $530 Billion "Pills for Pop" program, and CFR.
Gilchrest's ACU rating DROPPED from 78% to 62% this year.
It's time to retire Gilchrest.

Pipkin is a wealthy RINO who is trying to buy a seat. Corrogn Vaughn is the only one of them of any substance. Pipkin is pro-choice, pro-gun control and only won his seat with the after buying of the environmentalist wackos. Vaughn is pro-life pro-gun and anti-gay marriage.

Better do more research on Pipkin, because if you are a freeper he ain't your candidate. He is Babs with out the dress. The only reason the party is backing him is because he has money and John Kane won't have to spend any of the MdGOP's money. The only issue Pipkin is running on is the fact he stopped the Parris from dumping waste mud in the bay near Easton.

I have been and met most of the candidates at "candidate night" and I have never seen Pipkin at none expect for a Bull Roost in Harford County and that was pretty much a staged event.

There's a guy named "Floyd" whose ads have been running. He sounds the most conservative, and signed the ATR anti-tax pledge.

I respectfully disagree regarding your opinion of Floyd. Floyd's pro-abort stance offends the Party's base in that district.
Robin Ficker, an overall "moderate conservative" is the most conservative candidate running for Maryland's US Congressional District 8 seat. GOP Primary voters should vote for him this Tuesday. More info. here:

I agree, all registered Maryland Republican FReeoers should vote for Corrogan R. Vaughn in this Tuesday's primary election.
He is the only pro-gun, pro-family AND pro-life candidate in that race!

The Maryland Family Values Alliance and Christian Coalition voters guides can be viewed at this link
www.mdfva.org
In a nutshell, their picks for the GOP Primary are:
Senate - Vaughn
House Districts:
1 - Colburn
2 - Brooks
3 - Duckworth
4 - McKinnis
5 - Crawford
6 - Bartlett
7 - Ward
8 - Ficker
P.S. The above are the best and most electable pro-gun candidates, too.

Interesting the MDFVA would pick Ficker. He was on the Mark Plokin show on WTOP last Friday and was asked if he would support a Const. Amend. defining marraige. He said outright would not support it, saying social issues do not belong in the Constitution. The debate is still on the politics page on the TOP web site. As I recall it was about halfway through the program.

Found this site that seems to have the info you want.
It looks like Kodak is a pro-death RINO, but several of the others are clearly pro-life.
Pipkin and Gordon have no comments, and Pipkin's web site avoids the issues (RINO alert)
Zarwell, Stafford, Vaughn, and Jennings are all solid pro life. Martin says a child is not a choice.
