GOP challenger seeks Wyden’s seat

Bruce Broussard, a talk-show host and unsuccessful candidate for a string of offices in the past, filed Monday for the GOP nomination to the seat held by Democratic U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, who is seeking re-election.

Pavel Goberman of Beaverton, who has run unsuccessfully for several other offices, earlier had announced he is seeking the GOP nomination to the Senate seat in the May 18 primary election.

Looks like the Oregon GOP is firing on all cylinders!

The filing deadline is Tuesday, March 9th.

One would think that in a state in which Bush lost by less than 1%, a first- or second-tier candidate would come forward to challenge Ron Wyden, who is a liberal from Portland and is to the left of 95% of Oregonians. But, alas, that is not the case. Mannix better win the governorship in 2006, because that's got to have been the reason he passed on this race.

Well, he has a new job -- state GOP chair -- and Wyden's a really strong incumbent, as most incumbents would be if they tended the vineyard like he does.

I don't think Oregon has a very deep pool of candidates to take on Wyden. They don't seem to have many officeholders, and only one of Oregon's congressmen is Republican. It makes Gordon Smith look like a lucky break.

Gordon Smith is a solid Senator. I read a really good article about the suicide of his son Garrett this weekend. What a heart-wrenching story.

It seems like we should be able to have a credible candidate in this race, I mean really. Not a great one, but a credible one.

"Lindauer worked at Fortune, U.S. News & World Report and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before beginning her career as a political publicist. She worked for then U.S. Rep. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., before joining the office of former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun as press secretary in 1996."

Too bad we don't have a good candidate running against Wyden. I assume that Oregonians won't like the fact that a former employee of his is a traitor who later spied for Iraq and may have been involved in the plot to assassinate George H.W. Bush.
