Yes, it is. Jeff Bingaman has never faced a strong opponent, unless you count then-Sen. Harrison Schmidt, whose innacurate TV ads contributed to his own defeat.

I've never understood Bingaman's appeal in that state. He's rather workmanlike and doesn't venture into the spotlight that much. Plus a great deal of New Mexico's population is Hispanic, so what appeal does he hold for them? Just long term incumbency, perhaps?

Just now I remembered that King of the Hill episode where Bill dated Khans mother, and to stop her from dating him, Khan told Bill that his mom dated Harrison Schmidt.

What was that about? You'd think a high profile incumbent senator an former astronaut who was the last person to walk on the moon would have had a better campaign.
