Tom Davis is the reason there even is a Republican Party in Northern Virginia. He is a tireless party builder who just this year has been criss-crossing the state doing more than anybody else in the party to help our candidates win. And I have some numbers from his record in the House:
Planned Parenthood: Davis 30% NARAL: Davis 0% National Right to Life: Davis 80% National Taxpayers Union: Davis 49% Americans for Tax Reform: Davis 79% NFIB (small business group): Davis 93% Chamber of Commerce: Davis 85% ACLU: Davis 19% Concerned Women for America: Davis 71% Eagle Forum: Davis 71% American Conservative Union: Davis 57% Family Research Council: Davis 62% NRA: Davis got a D grade National Education Association: Davis 25% AFL-CIO: Davis 15% US Border Control: Davis 83%
Other than guns, that looks like a pretty good conservative record. The key to understanding Davis is to understand his district.
In 2004 George W. Bush squeaked by with 49.92% over John Kerry. In 2005 Tim Kaine won the 11th district with 56% of the vote over Jerry Kilgore. In 2006 Jim Webb carried the district with 55% of the vote over George Allen.
Sorry. Tom Davis cannot be Jim DeMint. He just can't. And what if he was? It would be nice, for two years. Then Gerry Connolly or Leslie Byrne or Chap Petersen would defeat him. Is it a good excuse? That's up to you, but I live in this district and have knocked on doors and worked phones for Davis and other candidates. I've seen and heard the attitudes. I knew George Allen was in deep trouble in September. This district is a federal district, where what happens in DC influences it more than anything Richmond might do.

This posting is worth reading.
He’s not as conservative as I wish he was (He’s my rep), and he’s not as liberal as some make him out to be.
He IS however very meddling, and very “results-oriented”, which makes me always wary of him because even when he votes right I have no idea WHY.
So he hauls ballplayers in to lecture them on steroids, but also tries to subpoena Terri Shaivo to get her out of Florida.
And he stands up for conservatives, but then turns around and tries to give DC voting rights.
But what really pissed me off was his turning against the President on the war. He’s slightly better now, but I don’t know if he’s back on board.
I’m with the blogger who thinks Davis would make a fine Senator, but Mark Warner is going to give him a serious run for his money in Northern Virginia, which gets bluer by the day.
Its really a shame what’s happened over there. Every new good government type who comes to DC to change the world runs out and buys a townhouse in the Maryland or Virginia beltway suburbs, marries an environmental activist and drives around in a Volvo or a Prius with a Kerry bumper sticker on the back.
It makes you sick.
Jim's the guy who accepts money from AlQaida and other Arab terrorist groups.
Tom's weird but he's not Moran.
BTW, we have a Volvo parked out front ~ don’t mean a thing.
BTW, we have a Volvo parked out front ~ dont mean a thing.
Anyone but Warner.
Warner made a mess of the road money over there. I was shocked when he beat Mark Earley. I never thought I’d see the Old Dominion send an Alexandria lib to Richmond.
This this old biddy with a little green Yugo scrapped the rear side panel on my brand new Hyundai. She had nasty Democrat stickers all over her car.
She waited until we went into the bookstore before doing that, but we know who she is and which car is hers.
It will be a "used to be green" sticker covered POS by the time I'm done with it.
Leftwingtards are so stupid. They actually believe they are invisible when they do these things.
Keep the Old Dominion red in 2008.
Whatever it takes.
Actually VA had a liberal senator elected as far back as 1966 — William Spong.
Lots of liberals took office in the 1960’s. But Virginia hasn’t gone blue in the presidential elections since LBJ in 1964.
And the GOP needs them in 2008.
The late Bill Spong was a moderate. When the ACU kept ratings for his last 2 years in the Senate, he averaged a 50%. By today’s standards, he’d be a Ben Nelson type. His seatmate, the DINO Independent Harry Byrd, Jr. (who is still alive today and turns 93 in December) sometimes scored a perfect 100%. Things have definitely changed, and not for the better.
