U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. John Sullivan officially endorsed Republican Fred Thompson for president on Wednesday.
Thompson's presidential campaign made the announcement for the two Oklahoma Republicans.
Inhofe had gone public with his support of Thompson last June, even before the attorney-turned-actor-turned-politician had entered the race.
Sullivan confirmed his endorsement Wednesday.
"I am proud to support Senator Thompson," he said in a written statement. "He is a backer of fiscally responsible spending, positive immigration reform and correcting our nation's broken health-care system."
Inhofe cited Thompson's leadership and proven record of supporting conservative values.
"As Americans get to know Fred over the next few months, they will quickly find a man committed to winning the war on terror and ready to finally secure our borders," he said. "They will find a man of experience who helped bring change to Congress as part of the 1994 conservative revolution."
Thompson, whose much-anticipated debut as a presidential candidate has not generated universal praise, cited the Oklahomans' endorsement as another sign of his growing momentum.
His press release also cited the state's Feb. 5 presidential primary, adding that Inhofe and Sullivan's support further strengthens his campaign's organization and standing in a key early primary state.
I wish my Texas senators would follow suit.

He does not need universal praise. He needs just one electoral vote more than Hillary!
Sen. Jim Inhofe has a spine and he recognizes the same in Fred Thompson. I have a lot of respect for both of them.
I don’t know anything about Sullivan, but Inhofe is terrific.
Well said.
I agree also. I was supporting Thompson anyway, but it is nice to see someone like Inhofe stepping up to support him.
It sure is.

Sure hope Tom Coburn does likewise. Sullivan supported a local sales tax in the Tulsa area that makes me question his true nature. I don’t have any such reservations about Tom Coburn.
Senator Inhofe is a good guy. Although I’m a Duncan fan I wouldn’t have a problem with Fred in the WH. Keep that campaign going!
Same here!

Thompson/Inhofe 08?
I’m glad to see Senator Inhofe officially endorsing Thomspon. Inhofe is a good man and a good Senator.
