While most establishment Republicans are rallying around the idea of a Rob Portman candidacy to replace the retiring Senator Voinovich, some Ohio conservatives are quietly clamoring for an attractive conservative outside-the-box candidate to emerge. That candidate may just be Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor.
Like Sarah Palin, Taylor is thought of as both a conservative, and as a maverick who stood-up to the Republican "good old boys" machine in Ohio. A CPA by trade, she has also proven she can win in a difficult environment. In fact, she was the only Ohio Republican to win statewide in 2006.
Taylor was even reportedly kicked off of a committee in the House for voting against the largest tax hike in Ohio's history, the Gov. Taft / Larry Householder tax increases. Former Secretary of State Ken Blackwell led a ballot initiative against those same hikes, and supporters of that initiative could form a base to rally behind Taylor.

This is a great editorial. Whether Taylor is actually interested is unclear. But she would be a breath of fresh air, just like Palin is in Alaska.
I don’t know much about the lone statewide Republican officeholder in Ohio (excluding the Supremes).
Does she look like Tina Fey, have a pregnant teenage daughter, or give birth to a down syndrome baby the left believes should’ve been aborted?
On a side note, in her 2012 acceptance speech, she should offer to allow Trig to serve as head of the DNC as a gesture of bi-partisanship. It should be a distinct step up from the morons that populate and run that party right now.
All I know about her is that she actually does her job, unlike corrupt establishment party hack Petro.
HOLY CRAP! There’s another Palin-like conservative out there? What about that Sarah in MO running for Bond’s seat?
“What about that Sarah in MO running for Bonds seat?”
That’s former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, and she hasn’t made a final decision yet.
Petro... ugh.
