Missouri state Sen. Bill Stouffer is seeking the 2010 Republican nomination to oppose veteran Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton.
Stouffer recently filed a statement of candidacy and a statement of organization to organize a campaign in Missouri's 4th, a Republican-leaning district that includes all or part of 25 counties in central and western Missouri.
"Enough is enough," Stouffer told CQ Politics Friday. "We've lost sight of what the role of the federal government is. We forget that the federal government was created by the states to serve the states, not to dictate to the states, and I'm concerned with the deficits that we're running up."
And, he continued, "I think we're heading down the wrong road. We've got to be more fiscally sound in our decisions."

Ike Skelton was an independent-minded Representative for many years, but lately, he’s voted down-the-line for the Obama agenda. Too bad. Given his long prior record of breaking with his party, I hope he chooses to retire voluntarily.
On another note, the recruiting successes that conservatives have been having are amazing. The tide is definitely turning.
What does Pelosi have on him. I love Pete Sessions strategy of being on offense instead of defense in 2010 and taking the fight to the Dems. These are some of the best candidates I have seen in a long time from the GOP.
I am impressede with Pete Sessions from Texas and the job he is doing at NRCC.

Ike was a great Democrat that was conservative for years but the last few years he really has a been a great disappointment. He needs to retire or a good Republican needs to take his place. He is pretty old and has had enough time in Washington.
He'll never lose an election because people like him as a person. Liking a person is one thing--but his voting against everything western Missouri stands for is another.
If Sessions gets us near or above a majority, he should be rewarded with the Speakership (or promoted to Minority Leader, whichever the case). Boehner hasn’t earned the privilege to become Speaker.
I hope he's forcibly retired in a humiliating fashion by Stouffer or whomever. I'm felling a bit spiteful today. ;)
Skelton needs to be turned out. He represents a HUGELY Republican district. It’s probably one of the most Republican districts in the country that is represented by a Democrat. Obama probably got a tiny fraction of the vote in Skelton’s district. He clearly does not represent his constituents. Hopefully Stouffer can make a race of it. If it were an open seat, there’s no way a Democrat would win here.

Sessions has a very good voting record IIRC, but I’m not sure he can jump to Speaker (or Minority Leader) even if 2010 turns out to be a record-breaking year for the GOP. I’d certainly prefer Mike Pence, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan or Steve King as Speaker.
I remember Davis’s accomplishment then, and he did deserve credit for that, although over time, he turned into a real arrogant prima donna, virtually blackmailing the VA GOP to give him the Senate nomination (for which he was even more liberal than the erratic John Warner), and when he didn’t get it, took his pail and shovel and went home. I suggest Sessions namely because if he pulls it off, he would’ve demonstrated some real leadership, the first we’ve seen from the House side in a good part of this decade, and he’s got an excellent voting record to boot (missing, as you cited, from Davis’s credentials). Success should be rewarded (rather than the rewarding of failure, which we’ve seen with the retention of people like Boehner or running Roy Blunt for Senator).
A mention about Cantor, I’ve somewhat soured on him, I think he’s getting too assimilated into the DC culture. Almost everyone currently in leadership (in both legislative bodies) should be replaced for the 2011-2012 Congress.
Cantor urged freshman and other vulnerable Republicans to vote for that unconstitutional CEO pay deal. Kinda squicky of him.
I’d throw McClintock in the mix also,even though he’s a freshman (and has an eye condition that they would make fun of).
King would be good. It’s be great to have him in the Senate too.
Obama got 38% in Skelton’s district.
Better than Kerry’s 35% but worse than Gore’s 39%.
It was competitive Truman country way back when. Not anymore.
Isnt it funny how government wants to tell us that we have the program for you, we got the loan for you we have the bailout for you, we have the debt forgiveness program.

When they are the ones who have wrecked free enterprise/economy etc...etc... for the last how many upteen years. Even when the conomy was “so called” good over the last 20 years its was a joke, it was all based on there ever increasing loans credit card and free money take a loan dont buy with cash world. In the 60s 18 year olds could buy new cars and your biggest loan was 3 years if you realy needed one. They will forgive us debt programs, they will help us programs, etc....
