David Axelrod: Alvin Greene Doesn’t Appear To Be “Legitimate”
Mediaite ^ | June 13, 2010 | Glynnis MacNicol

Posted on 06/14/2010 2:27:30 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s probably safe to say that South Carolina Senate Dem primary winner Alvin Greene will not be hearing from anonymous senior administration officials out to offer him a cushy job in exchange for him dropping out of the race. Instead, I imagine the White House (and many others) are hoping the press will do their dirty work and solve the strange mystery of how Greene — a totally unfunded, unknown — won the SC primary last week.

When asked this morning on Meet the Press whether he thought Greene was a “legitimate candidate” David Axelrod did not pull many punches.

It’s doesn’t appear so to me. It’s a mysterious deal, he didn’t campaign, the whole thing is odd, and I don’t really know how to explain it. I don’t think anyone else does either….I think the Democrats of South Carolina deserve a strong, credible candidate, and I guess he would argue he won 60% of the primary so that would be him. How he won the primary is a big mystery though, and until you resolve that I don’t think he can claim to be a strong, credible candidate.

Um, yes. Maybe Greene will turn out to be the real life political version of a fake Twitter account and when the fun dies down someone will appear to take responsibility. Watch below.

I can’t wait to see the arrest of Mr. Greene when it appears on YouTube. That should go viral.

Greene is just as legitimate as Axelboy's boss.

More so. At least Greene served in the military.

Alvin Greene has the ‘judgment to lead’!

Saying he is unqualified or not a serious contender is indeed a racist thing to say. The media has told us that for 2 years now!

You have a black Democrat candidate for SC Senator, Ax. DEAL WITH IT!

He can vote “present” as well as Obama did. He can vote party line as well as the others if he feels like voting. Senators neither write nor read the bills they vote on.

What, exactly, is their beef with this guy? He deserves a cushy pension and health care package as much as anyone.

Does anyone know what % of the S. Carolina Dems are black. I assume it’s between 75-80%. Therefore, IMHO, it would appear that they voted for him simply because he is black, omaking his race the ONLY criteria in their choice over an obviously qualified candidtae who happens to be white. THus we now see the birth of a NEW political species...not a “yellow dog” Dem, not a “blue dog” Dem, but a “black dog” Dem...

The elephant in the room is that Greene was the most qualified candidate on the Democrat ballot. He is probably the most qualified nationwide when you compare him to elected Democrats.

This is just delightful. Beyond all many of us could begin to dream or hope for.

There are, of course, any number of plausible reasons for Mr. Greene's nomination victory, and all of them point to a sclerotic Party structure. It seems a lot like 1972, after McGovern got the presidential nomination.

Interesting, perhaps. Considered one of two or three "positive" outcomes for the Democrats in 1972 was the election of Joseph Biden to the Senate, against the national tide. Perhaps his fortunes are on the rise, once again.

These Dems remind me of the folks wandering below the water line in Western Thailand, just before the Tsunami.

This fellow Greene just might have had the money to file for the office, and he appears to be immune from any of the standard inducements to drop out, which unfortunately leaves violence.

What a grand opportunity for a free education for field hand and house slave alike, on the Democrat Plantation. I think they must have been the only folks to have cast Democrat ballots in this Primary.

Dave, there’s an election certificate that says otherwise.

Aside from that, Dave, did anybody on your side worry about whether that poor old farmer your party saddled the Republicans with when he ran for Senate was “legitimate”? Or about whether saddling the Republicans with David Duke against Edwin Edwards was “legitimate”? I must have missed it.

I personally don’t think Greene is a plant. I don’t see the South Carolina Republican organization as that clever right now. But if they did, your party is in a particularly bad position to complain.

no violence needed, he will be backed by the dems, and vote as he is paid. win/win.

Here’s how one of my wife’s liberal friends on facebook tried to summarize Greene’s election:

“classic. they are trying to paint him as a republican plant. like the republicans are smart enough to think of that, or organized enough to actually pull it off!!! Lol!”

Sigh.

The democrats demonstrate YET AGAIN that they should probably have their voter registration cards confiscated and somehow this libtard turns it into an opportunity to insult the intelligence of REPUBLICANS.

Classic.

Anyway, the idea that this guy is a republican plant is ludicrous - Demint is safe. There is no need for anyone to pull dirty tricks. Moreover, which republicans were going to give up their primary gubernatorial vote in order to disrupt a safe senate election...?

Finally, this election is no different that Obama. An inexperienced black man wins simply because the democrats have no idea what they are voter for.

To be fair, this would be a lot of conservatives' take on the situation as well. Not many people, regardless of political philosophy, hold much stock in the competence of the Republican party.

Greene plays the race card!

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/13/south-carolina-pol-questions-dem-senate-candidates-mental-status/?test=latestnews

State Rep. Todd Rutherford told Fox News that he went to Greene’s house to discuss with him how Greene succeeded last week in becoming the candidate to challenge Republican Sen. Jim DeMint in the November election, but he found it difficult to decipher an answer.

“About two questions into a conversation with him, it would become apparent that he is not probably fit to answer the questions befitting a Senate candidate,” said Rutherford, a Democrat.
“If he was put into this, then it is a joke that is funny to all the rest of us, but he doesn’t get it — because I don’t know that his mental status is such that he can get it.

“On Friday South Carolina authorities launched a formal investigation into Greene’s unlikely win.

The campaign of his vanquished opponent, Vic Rawl, said it too is looking into reports across the state from voters and poll workers who “experienced problems with voting for whom they intended.

“A Rawl campaign spokesman said he believes that the outcome of Tuesday’s election is “statistically impossible” and “South Carolinians would rather be 100 percent right than 90 percent uncertain.”

Greene won with about 60 percent of the vote.Rutherford said he asked Greene whether his honorable but involuntary discharge from the U.S. Army last August was related to his mental state.

“When I asked him whether they had checked his mental health status, he seemed to suggest that doing so brought about racist implications and other things. He kind of ducked the issue,” said Rutherford.

Somebody needs to demand of this communist, why a black man who has served the USA in the armed forces, and probably has a birth certificate to boot, is “less qualified” for public service than the current occupant of the Oval Office.

Could it be because his nomination reflects the will of the people...as opposed to....whichever nation/corporate interests the current Congress represents?!!

Granted I have no great faith in GOP leadership nowadays, but Demint in a shoo-in - why would the GOP even NEED to think of planting Greene?

It’s just nonsense.

The thread starter on facebook also ticked me off. Her post said something like “Oh, SC - it’s a good thing you are pretty, because you sure do some stupid stuff.” The implication was that she lives in a backwards, redneck state.

The truth is that SC had nothing to do with Greene. SC will elect Demint, demonstrating its brilliance (heh). The democrats who voted in the primary are solely responsible for Greene, but she still does her best to pin Greene’s primary win as a result of the foolish rednecks in SC.

David Axelrod: Alvin Greene Doesn’t Appear To Be “Legitimate”

I'll bet he has a long form birth certificate showing he was born in the US, or a certificate of naturalization, or one of the alternatives for those born abroad of US citizens, showing he is at least 30 years old, and if naturalized has been so for at least 9 years.

More than Obummer can say.
