I am returning from a Republican Picnic and what I witnessed is absolutely astounding. I have been on the forefront of the illegal immigration battle, including being one of the original Minutemen on the Arizona/Mexico border in 2005 for the Original Minuteman Border watch.
With all the talk of Tea Parties and bringing back the Constitution, I learned it's just that. a LOT of talk.
I do not need to give most of you the run down on illegal immigration and Illinois. Or the shambles the Democratic and Republican parties ( Is There any difference?)have left Illinois in.
The Illinois Republican candidate for Governor announced that he had NO opinion on The Arizona law SB1070. Then weeks later he came out with his infinate wisdom. He supports MORE LEGAL immigration.
With that being said, I was asked to come up to the microphone today and give a few words on whats going on with illegal immigration.
This is what I said and as far as I got before the Microphone was shut off: I said folks, SAVING THE AMERICAN WORKER is what it's all about!
Will you please ask Bill Brady, (Illinois GOP gubernatorial Candidate)how will MORE Legal immigration help the 25 Million Americans who are out of work?
At that point the microphone was shut off because the State Chairman of Lake County BOB COOK, said I was bashing Bill Brady, the Republican Candidate for Governor.
I said " I told the voters to ask Bill how more legal immigration would help unemployed Americans, I did not BASH HIM!" To which Bob Cook replied, yes it is bashing.
This is the same group that is telling people they MUST vote for MARK KIRK who can't tell the truth to save his life and votes Ultra-Liberal all the time.
Anyway, the moral of the story is, these people use the phrase upholding the Constitution every chance they get.
Have they EVER heard of FREE SPEECH??
illegal immigration Ping
Please make sure that NumbersUSA and all other similar groups against illegal immigration know about this, too, if they don’t know about it already.
How did the crowd react?
I want to hear more on this, but it definitely sounds like the guy who turned off the mike was in the wrong.
I certainly don’t want Kirk to win. Who else is out there that seems like a real conservative candidate?
Sounds like the Illinois Tea Party has been co-opted by the kind of people who like power for the sake of power.
They’re all from Illinois. People there are totally beaten down by the criminal gang in Chicago.
So, you’re against LEGAL immigration?
LEGAL immigration?
Where people get into this country by playing by the rules?
You’re against THAT kind of immigration?
I wasn’t there so I’m not sure how it all went down, but could you clarify for me, were you talking about Legal or Illegal Immigration?
We really need a whole bunch of legal immigrants now that so many citizens are out of work????
Could it be that Illinois is SO CORRUPT that the corruption stains even the Tea Party?
Just asking.......
arlis
There’s no one Tea Party. Bug out of this trump faux-Tea Party and either find a REAL one or start one.
When you go to a GOP event, they get to control the message. As Reagan once said, “I paid for this microphone.”
Were you the one paying for the microphone, the PA and all costs associated with the rally? Was it a government official that cut off your microphone?
If not, your First Amendment Rights were not violated.
If not.
Freedom of speech as it appears in the First Amendment has nothing to do with private gatherings. I doubt this event went down the way it is presented. The account flunks the smell test.
But even if it did, it is a fact that he who pays for the mic gets to say who uses it and for what. Only an idiot would bring up the Constitution in this context, and we have enough idiots here already thanks.
They supported it. They are NOT worried about the Constitution OR Tea Party Principles. It is so funny. They say that in ONE Breath then in the next breath, you MUST SUPPORT ALL REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES DIABLO or NOT!!
Many folks in the Illinois GOP say You MUST VOTE MARK KIRK because we MUST support candidates AFTER they win the Primary!!
OH REALLY?? Flash Back Feb 2009
News In Brief
A Republican Congressman Could Endorse a Democrat for Congress

A Republican congressman from Chicago ‘s north suburbs could be open to endorsing a Democratic candidate for Congress. Mark Kirk says he’s done a lot of work with State Representative John Fritchey of Chicago . Kirk laughed when asked if he’ll make an endorsement in the fifth district special election.
KIRK: I told him I would either condemn him or endorse him, which ever helps.
A spokesman for Fritchey says he’s glad the representative’s reputation as an effective legislator is widespread. He adds that Kirk and Fritchey would be on opposite sides of many issues if they serve together.

St. Rep. Fritchey’s spokesman was incorrect when he said that Fritchey and Kirk would disagree about many issues. Kirk is pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge. His latest rating from Planned Parenthood is 100%, and his latest rating from Gun Owners of America is 0%. In May 2007, 11 republican congressmen went to the White House and told then-President Bush that they opposed the Iraq surge, and Kirk was the group’s leader. Kirk is so liberal, he should run as a Democrat.
First, people are getting impatient. They feel they are not being heard in Washington, or by their local representatives. And they are broke, out of jobs, and depressed. They are having trouble knowing who to trust, who is telling the truth. All it takes is a couple of people who act disrespectfully, and the whole crowd becomes unglued.
Second: The Right wingers have sent out notices and planned for their people to infiltrate any gathering of Tea Partiers and work the crowd to become ignorant and aggressive. Again, all it takes is a few well placed individuals to stir things up and break down the patience of the crowd that would have been respectful.
As to the guy who turned off the mike, it is obvious he was fearful of what might turn ugly, but he was wrong to act as he did. I hope I am interpreting your post correctly, I was a bit confused about what actually happened myself.
I intended to send this to you...
Yeah I’m not surprised. Turning around IL politics is a monumental challenge and it has to start somewhere. Thanks for your efforts. Perhaps IL history will recognize you as the Rosa Parks of the political reformation someday. :-)
