Chris Matthews Worries GOP Will Have More Trouble With Palin Than With Democrats
Mediaite ^ | September 18, 2010 | Frances Martel

Posted on 09/18/2010 5:33:03 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

With the midterm elections rapidly approaching, the fixation on the Republican Party’s chances for a comeback are evolving into speculation over the future of the GOP should the Tea Party make a serious indent on their collective persona. In light of this, Chris Matthews argued Friday night that the GOP’s biggest problem will not be President Obama or the Democrats, or even the Tea Party candidates themselves, but what to do about Sarah Palin, the candidate.

“There’s no doubt in the world that she… carries tremendous clout when she endorses candidates,” Matthews conceded. But for the Party, that may not be the greatest thing, he argued, because “the person now leading the party in terms of popular influence can’t pass muster with the party’s established leaders.” Meaning: she doesn’t have the credentials to fill the shoes she’s currently wearing.

Matthews continued, wondering whether other potential 2012 candidates would feel comfortable endorsing her: “Ask Mitt Romney: does he really think deep down Sarah Palin has the right stuff to lead this country?” And as for the entire party itself, he presented them what he believes is the key to their success with her as leader:

“Do they buy all this talk of hers that all America needs in this second decade of the 21st Century are common sense conservative solutions? That a regular person with regular off-the-shelf answers can deal with the tricky, complex questions of economics, science, and international relations now before the country?”

And if they don’t believe this, he concluded, “how can you win the love of the Tea Partiers if you don’t believe in the presidential ability of their hero?”

Matthews comments from last Friday’s Hardball via MSNBC below:

That was probably the most sexist, elitist two minutes of vitriol that I've watched since the last time Keith Olbermann or Karl Rove said anything. Romney?! Pawlenty?! Who are they and what have they done to judge Sarah Palin?! And since when does a former aide to Democratic House Speaker "Tip" O'Neill give a flying fig what happens to the Republican Party?

One thing is for sure, Little Chrissy tingles isn’t worried about what palin might do to the republican party, he is frightened that she might whip the Democrats.

I bet Palin doesn’t have to dig too deep to know that Romney doesn’t have the right stuff to lead the country.

If the GOP is going to have a lot of trouble with Sarah it will be a good kind of trouble. She’s whipping them into shape for the 2012 chamionship game.

“the person now leading the party in terms of popular influence can’t pass muster with the party’s established leaders.”

That's the whole point, Chrissie you dumb*ss!

The party's established leaders have NO popular influence.

(Has this guy slept through all the town hall protests, Tea party meetings, Beck rallies, Palin rallies???)

Matthews: “the person now leading the party in terms of popular influence can’t pass muster with the party’s established leaders.”

Screw the "party's established leaders"! And while you're at it Tingle-leg...screw you.

We all know good and well that the loud mouthed RAT-a-gandist could care less about the welfare of the GOP.

Same with any other seemingly concerned "journolist".

1.) Denial
2.) Anger
3.) Bargaining
4.) Depression
5.) Acceptance

He has been through the 1st 2 for sure, But what the heck do I know...

He is goin' to hate 10' and 12'...

Chrissy needs to spend his time being more concerned with his floppy eared hero.

The democrat party is also in shambles.

The American people are disgusted and have no respect for either party right now.

They want the commies booted.

Chris Matthews Worries GOP Will Have More Trouble With Palin Than With Democrats

Any sensible conservative already knows the fascism the Democrats offer him. He has Palin with enough history to review.

A single conservative will crawl on his hands and knees through a mile of broken glass to...

Oh, yes, and I can readily believe that Matthews stays up nights worrying about GOP travails.

He might be right given what I see on FR. The Palin and anti Palin or even mildly not for Palin camps are repulsive in their arguments. And the Palin supporters seem to be the worse to me.

Why don’t people realize that the enemy is Obama and the liberal democrats who are running us into the ditch. Far as I am concerned, we need to elect good, not perfect, conservatives.

can’t pass muster with the party’s established leaders.

What Matthews is missing here is that the party's established leaders cannot pass muster with us, the rank-and-file voters, and that is what gives Gov. Palin her greatest asset.

Chris, you seem to be waffling a bit. One clip seems to show an admiration for her political talent, the next she’s not qualified.

Maybe you should go back into her record in AK and detail for us all of the bad decisions she made. I doubt you will find many because we would have heard all about them by now if they existed. Maybe you could get some AK pols to describe the process she used to arrive at a decision. Let’s hear from both sides of the aisle. Let’s settle the 3am phone call question, Chris. We want you to feel safe when you go to bed at night knowing that matters are well in hand. How are you feeling about that 3am question right now, Chris?

ONLY such a person can deal with those questions. Reagan did. Maggie Thatcher did. Chrissy saw all that happen, and he's scared as hell it could happen again.

The answers, especially to the supposedly "complex" economic issues (foreign policy Obama has eff'd up so much it will be trickier to fix) are are simple: As simple as the observation that it is saving, investment and production (unburdening the "supply side") and not artificially gubermint stimulated spending and consumption (the cart-before-the-horse pushing on "aggregate demand") which creates wealth and prosperity.

Hissy Crapspews is terrified at the prospect of a Republican presidential candidate capable of drawing such distinctions in a manner ordinary people can easily understand. This could attract large numbers of working class Democrats to the Republican banner. Again, Hissy saw Reagan do just that, and so knows all too well it is possible, and that the climate is even riper for it than in the wake of Jimmy Peanut's failed Presidency.
