Palin death threat: Slightly more intense than unidentified flying literature.

It was a startling breach of security when the now-infamous shoe thrower got as close to President Bush as he did. Equally sobering was Sajid Ali Khan‘s “daring, courageous, lunatic” book plugging on Sunday. While the image of something nearly sailing over an oblivious Obama’s head arouses immature giggling in some (read: me), we certainly should take these incidents seriously and protect public officials at all costs. Most people harbor no ill intentions, but it only takes one deranged person to inflict maximum harm—and they only have to be successful once.

Sarah Palin has received her share of threats from maniacal individuals, the most recent (and curiously underreported) being a death threat prior to speaking at the Combat Vets for Congress fundraiser last Saturday. Since only a handful of local news outlets mentioned the threat against the former Governor, details are limited. San Diego’s 10 News reports:

A death threat against her before the event caused organizers to beef up security.

Combat Veterans for Congress Chairman Joseph John said the group was “very concerned about her security.” Sheraton hotel manager Warren Nocon told the newspaper the hotel had planned to have security at the fundraiser even before the threat was revealed.

See the additional security in this related newscast, via PalinTV:

This level of protection seems non-negotiable at this point, doesn’t it? Creepy camera guy at the airport, anyone? It’s time. While part of her appeal is her endearing willingness to engage everyone she meets, she needs vigilant security from now on. I don’t think this will inhibit her much, though. If anyone can still reach out to others beyond a tight security detail, it’s Sarah Palin.

Then Senator Obama got Secret Service protection waaaay before he won the Democratic nomination for the White House: If he were half the man President Bush is, he'd provide Governor Sarah Palin that same protection now!!

This might come up after the 2010 election, she is about 6 and a half months away from when Obama requested his protection.

You couldn’t have said it any better. She should be assigned 24/7 secret service protection. As November 2 approaches the left is becoming un done each day as they stare into the face of historic losses. The slightest thing can set one of these idiots off.

This world is not the same place, I once knew.

I agree Sarah should have 24/7 Secret Service.

I would think her children, especially the youngest are in the most danger. You are correct the entire family needs a security team.

I honestly don't remember whether I pinged you all to the news report about the death threat to Governor Palin, and my apology if I did, but like the article states, it's been under reported and security is a serious issue. I'm including the direct link to the news report for your convenience. There's been no additional information since that report.

Yes. She merits the very best of security because she loves to mingle with the crowds and she draws the crowds!

OTOH, I am willing to bet Sarah doesn’t really want secret service protection.

I beieve that I pray for her safety and the safety of her precious family, at least twice daily.

I know that several others here do too along with millions of her supporters.

as all of us who pray know....God gives us choices....Our God is mighty, and God sent his Son to help He (God) and us. Every time someone helps God, God is quick to show His appreciation. Our nation would not exist without God’s help. It was those who stood up to evil inside and outside this nation, who helped God. I believe God always enjoys having help.

Because the Palins are used to being free to move around without being crowded. A security detail limits that freedom tremendously. I know I’d hate it.

Thank you for the ping.

The Palins are in my prayers. Protection and wisdom. I also thank God for blessing us with Sarah.

In the last paragraph it talks about her not using a chauffeur which is generally a state trooper doing double duty of driver and security.

No matter what state I live in I have always been and will always be an Alaskan. I know I treasure my independence and suspect that she would also hate to have someone breathing down her neck at all times.

Ok, ya'll know I am a Palinista but I have to say this:

She is a private citizen, she does not work in the government, she has not declared her candicacy, therefore, to my mind, she doesn't deserve Secret Service protection. BUT! I would suggest she go out and hire some Special Ops type guys to beef up her security. You know the type, the ones who shoot first and ask questions later type of guys?
