West Virginia Senate: Manchin (D) Takes Slight Lead Over Raese (R)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 10/27/2010 | Rasmussen

Democratic Governor Joe Manchin has been in overdrive in recent days to distance himself from President Obama and congressional Democrats, and now he’s edged back into a three-point advantage in West Virginia’s U.S. Senate race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely West Virginia Voters finds Manchin with 49% support to Republican John Raese’s 46%. Two percent (2%) like another candidate in the race, while four percent (4%) remain undecided.

This is Raese’s to lose given that he had the upperhand much of the fall. If he lets Manchin get away with his tact to the right and doesn’t point out that the balance of power in the Senate between Obama’s agenda and an alternative is at stake, he probably deserves to lose. Manchin, despite some moderate stances, is still going to be a vote for the Dem majority and for the overall larger government, more intrusion that has failed so badly the past 18 months.

WTH happened there? Raese was up by 7 just a week ago!! Is it because of Manchin’s “I-don’t-support-0bama” head fake?

Come on, West Virginia!!! Don’t let your country down!!

FYI..Taranto has a piece today in the WSJ, also at nationalreview.com..saying that Manchin, if elected, is the MOST likely Dem to switch to the GOP..premise is that he sounds more like a Republican now, and that if he is elected, there's no way he could win in 2012 with Obama at the ballot. And if Rahall loses, that might convince Manchin to jump

Intriguing premise..if he did switch, right after the election, gave the GOP the majority..and voted against all of Obama's stuff..he probably wouldn't have a GOP primary opponent

This state voted McCain, Bush, Bush. I refuse to believe that Manchin will win this.

If so, every coal miner will certainly lose his job.

Tired of people getting so worked up over these fluctuating polls. Tuesday can’t come soon enough so this nonsense can stop. Yes, I still think Raese is going to win but however it goes I just want it done so the real work can start. The real work will be challenging Republicans to govern constitutionally and conservatively. I don’t view Tuesday as cause for celebration but one step toward confronting both establishments in D.C. and want to get started now.

I already voted for John Raese ... early voting started the 13th.

I'm really annoyed with the NRA.

he won’t switch..he is a full core liberal why would he switch if he wins as a Democrat this cycle. Raese needs to run ad says Obama and Dems are going to wins California and New York Senate races to decide if we are going to be able to stop Obama it is up to West Virginia voters. So vote Raese to stop Obama and Manchin to stay Governor. Also Republicans should have spent 3 million in WV instead of wasting on California

Early voting started on the 13th. So at this point, people have been voting for two weeks.

“Tired of people getting so worked up over these fluctuating polls.”

True. Live by the polls, die by the polls.

Still, I find myself watching them closely and though they can show some unusual swings, I like the way the majority of them are trending.

Raese by 8 points over Manchin. All of you are forgetting the massive Repbublican turnout that is coming... If he is anywhere close to even, Raese wins.
