In a surprising twist, the GOP is surging in New York state in several key races that were long thought unwinnable, according to the New York Post. The paper reported Monday that Republican Harry Wilson is in a dead heat with Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli while GOP stalwart Dan Donovan is surging against Eric Schneiderman in the attorney generals race.
The latest Siena College poll shows Donovan and Schneiderman tied 44 percent to 44 percent. Thats also the case with Wilson and DiNapoli. Whats especially shocking is that the two Republicans were unknowns in state politics and could not capitalize on any name recognition. The very fact that theyre climbing suggests that the GOP surge is so strong that many voters may be going with a straight Republican ticket in the voting booth to underscore their anger at Democrats.
Even more importantly, many of these surge voters are nominal independents.
When youre tied like this the independent vote is going to decide, Jeanne Zaino, a political science professor from Iona College, told the Post. In these cases, you wouldnt want to be an incumbent like DiNapoli or and insider like Schneiderman.

Start spreading the news,
I'm leaving today.
I want to be a part of it -
New York, New York.
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And step around the heart of it
New York, New York.
I want to wake up in a city,
That doesn't sleep,
To find I'm king of the hill- ah-
Top of the heap.
My little town blues
Are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York.
If I can make it there,
I'd make it anywhere
It's up to you,
New York, New York.
New York, New York!
I want to wake up in a city,
That doesn't sleep,
To find I'm king of the hill,
Head of the list,
Cream of the crop
At top of the heap.
My little town blues
Are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York.
If I can make it there,
I'd make it anywhere
Come on, come through,
New York, New York.
At top of the heap.
Of those in defeat.
I want to be a part of it -
New York, New York.
Thought the third line of the second verse was “right to the very heart of it...”
Could be.
My dream would be a surge so high that Chuck Schumer would get swept away - but that is dreaming! Still I can go to bed tonight with that thought in my mind....
