As gasoline prices shot up for the 13th straight day on Monday to a new national average topping $3.50 and oil prices rose to over $106 a barrel, the cost of energy seemed poised once again to rise to the forefront of the political discourse just as the 2012 presidential campaign generates steam.
Of all the prospective Republican candidates, none may have a better opportunity to benefit politically from a nominating cycle in which gas prices take center stage than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Marginalized by critics in 2008 over her perceived parochialism and lack of foreign policy experience, Palin can legitimately boast of a wide breadth of knowledge and wealth of experience on energy issues. For her, high gasoline prices may be an opportunity to demonstrate her own candlepower.
Since her 2009 resignation as governor, Palin has seemed eager to show off her policy chops on the national stage, but instead has struggled to mitigate the drawbacks of her celebrity image while repeatedly finding controversies large and small.
But it would be difficult for Palin's GOP rivals, and even her Democratic critics, to deny that energy issues fall directly into the wheelhouse of the former Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commissioner who went on to lead a state where almost 90 percent of the budget is funded by oil revenue. As Tina Fey might say, Palin can see oil pipelines from her house.....

How cool would it be if President Palin opened up ANWR, *all* sites in the Gulf, and (just to piss off the Kalifornia libs) the oilfields off of Santa Barbara?
I am waiting for the Obama administration to impose price controls on gasoline. This of course will induce shortages and long lines at the gas pump...exactly what Carter did in the 1970s.
Actually, I think we need $9.00 gas before Americans finally GET IT and stop believing the environmentalists and their BIG SPECULATOR and BIG OIL stories about the cause of price increases.
...and we will get that $9.00 gas, at least for a while, once the Saudi government is rolled (which will be soon).
If any potential candidates can and would open up our drilling, Sarah would do it in a heartbeat. She knows exactly what needs to be done, and how to do it!
whoop, there it is.
More and more eyes are getting opened and it’s not just my trucker friends. Lets not forget chronic unemployment and food prices.....yuck.
And President Nixon before that. Wage & price controls.
We have to get this under control, or many like me will be in deep doo-doo.
“food prices”....I decided to look at receipts I have on some items I purchase regularly at costco....in the past about 6 months the cost of 6 red peppers went from $5.49 to $6.49....the cost of Saurkraut from $2.59 to $2.99..the cost of something else I can’t recall went up a dollar....and I don’t think it’s seasonal (the frozen blueberries I buy ARE seasonal and vary by time of year.) Will be interesting (in a scary sort of way) to see what happens in NEXT 6 months...
The majority of the dumbshits that voted for the marxist are the ones that can least afford all these increases. How sweet it is.Boy,does my tagline apply here or what?
How ‘bout if Citizen Palin just hires some rigs and starts drilling in ANWR just to see if Bam’s got the stones to tell them they can’t?
Our new valiant President took office in Jan 2009 - gas was about $1.83 per gallon. Two years later, gas is about double what it was in Jan 2009. Will it be doubled again in two more years? $7.20 per gallon in Jan 2013? Thanks Democrats, for nothing except the demise of our country.

Ah yes, the next 6 months. Well, no cost of living increase for Social Security recipients.. no identifiable inflation. But, those folks who exist on food stamps, THEY need a big increase since their food stamps aren’t getting the same fix for the buck that they used to get. Gotta keep them happy after all.
I would point out that before the financial meltdown hit (it would have hit eventually, but I suspect the timing was triggered by market manipulation), the big issue in the run-up to the 2008 Presidential election was gasoline prices, and Palin’s addition to the ticket was giving McCain traction on the issue. If gas prices go up again, Palin’s consistent stand on oil exploration and exploitation and her experience as an oil-state governor become big pluses.
Sarah has had the same message since before gas was $3 a gallon. Her argument deals with NATIONAL SECURITY, in addition to economics. Both are important.
Bingo! Sarah will tell you or anybody else that the number one reason to “drill, baby, drill” is out of national security considerations...period
After that comes the jobs all over this country as a result and then using our own oil
I’m sure the Democrats will argue that now is NOT the time to lower unemployment as that will lead to increased consumption and higher prices.
Wow. I think I just stumbled onto Bammy’s idea for conservation.
I agree, and I predict that if Gas is $5.00 or more in October 2013, Sarah Palin will be our next President.
