House Republicans, Mike Huckabee Blink on Budget Showdown, Sarah Palin Says Don’t Retreat
Caffeinated Thoughts ^ | April 9, 2011 | Shane Vander Hart

Well it would seem that Republicans in Congress blinked agreeing to a last minute deal where they compromised everything and Democrats gave nothing. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is doing a victory lap, and President Obama was thankful that funding Planned Parenthood was avoided.

"We protected the investments we need to win the future. At the same time, we also made sure at the end of the day this was a debate about spending cuts — not social issues like women’s health and the protection of our air and water. These are important issues that deserve discussion, just not during a debate about our budget."

Whose future was protected? Certainly not the unborn. Why shouldn’t the funding for Planned Parenthood be discussed during a budget debate. We’re talking money. This wasn’t an abortion ban. That statement is asinine. During a budget debate is the perfect time to discuss what is worthy of taxpayer money and what is not.

And House Republicans caved. Typical.

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) mentioned that this didn’t even include defunding Obamacare. She said that this was a “small ball” battle, and not worth the fight. (I take that back, I must have misunderstood her. She voted against the CR that averted the shutdown.)

I disagree. If Republican leadership caves here what possible confidence do we have that they won’t cave in a big battle?

Instead of larger spending cuts and the defunding of Planned Parenthood only $38 billion is being cut this year, and $78 billion in next year’s budget. Considering the spending binge that Democrats have taken us on and the massive debt that we now face that is no where near good enough. What exactly did they give?

Couldn’t we at least have had the defunding of Planned Parenthood that the House voted for in February? After the corruption found in that organization that they get a single taxpayer dime is unacceptable! It must be defunded and the House had the leverage to do it, and they blinked.

They let the government shutdown bogeyman spook them. Former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR) blinked as well. He said on Fox News quoted by Dave Weigel:

"To quote two great government paragons, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, you can’t always get what you want. You get what you can, then you fight for the rest the next day… I’d love to see Planned Parenthood just disappear, I’d love to see NPR defunded… but you’re going to put a lot of pain on people who don’t deserve the pain."

Governor Huckabee is it ok for the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief, to hold the military hostage over Planned Parenthood funding? Why in the world would they not allow him to make good on the threat to veto the continuing resolution that would have kept our military funded? His action is appalling and he should be called on the carpet for it. Instead we cave… so we can be ready to fight another day…. utter nonsense.

Fight now. I agree with Governor Palin who tweeted twice today… "GOP: don’t retreat! The country is going broke. We can’t AFFORD cowboy poetry & subsidizing abortion. If we can’t fight to defund this nonsense now when we have the chance, do you think we’ll win the big fight on entitlement reform later on?"

It seems to me that as it stands right now that House Republican leadership will take the path of least resistance. I had hoped not to have to wait until 2012 to make at least some progress.

Palin played a major role in electing conservatives in 2010 and has been leading the battle against Obama and the Democrats, far beyond anything like an ankle-biter like you could ever accomplish.

Those that can do, those who can't thrash those that do.

Sarah Palin is a pathetic arm chair General. She has no responsibility. She has no accountability. She hides behind tweeting and Facebook posts. Give me a damn break. The Speaker had Real responsibility and accountability.

Onyx,

Great pics!

The pictures of Sarah and Todd with the Netanyahu’s was terrific! For just a second I imagined her as POTUS. Then reality bit me in the arse and I remembered Odumbo was POTUS. Doh!

>>Sarah Palin Says Don’t Retreat<<

Has she dropped the “reload” part? Is this a “civility” thing?

I know it has to be God’s will for her, but I’m hoping that she feels like she’s being led to run.

Praise the Lord.

RE :”Again I say, Governor Sarah Palin for president!

Have you mentioned that to her? Did she mention being president in that article?

BTW : Did she use the word shutdown in that post? It wasnt in the FR posted part. Straight forward talk is the best.
She needs to be down in DC talking personally with all the Republicans House members telling them exactly what moves to make and reassuring them that her ideas will work. Some of these Republicans with shakey voters need to be reassured why its important they ignore their voters phone calls when the heat goes up high. If she could get Obama to cave and sign a bill ($100B plus riders) she would would win the nomination without contest, if that's what she really wants.

More battles are coming, it's not too late! Tell her.

Sarah has more courage than any of them. The more I pay attention to politics, the more upset I get.

What, by this action, was done with the Federal budget:
.
A family with income of $26,000 a year is spending $38,000. (Add eight zeroes to each of those figures and you have the federal budget.)
.
The so-called “man of the house” tells his family, “We can’t go on like this. Our credit cards are near their limit, and soon we won’t even be able to pay the interest on them. We need to spend less, so let’s cut spending this year by $630 to $37,370”
.
After a few days of conflict at home, he can’t bear the pressure. He goes back to his family and sheepishly tells them he will be satisfied if they cut spending by only $390, and that he will accept the family spending $37,610.
.
Why should we have any confidence Republican leaders will have the courage to address the remaining $11,600 in my example (multiplied by 100 million in the federal budget) when they can’t hold out even a weekend over a lousy $240 that won’t even begin to address the problem?
.
I’m thoroughly disgusted with not just them, but my supposedly conservative Congressman that voted them into positions of leadership. Why give majorities to Republicans when the allow Democrats to dictate the agenda and the results on any issue of consequence?

I’m disgusted too. Plus, I just can’t get over the fact that democrats do not care what happens to this country. I know some democrats, and I can’t reason with them either.

She quit.

Something about not wanting to be a lame duck. How can you be a lame duck if you still have 16 months left in your term?

Stating opinion is not hard. We all do all day long. Governing is. That is my point. In that sense, House leadership did an ok job on the 2011 budget deal.

Sitting on sidelines and Opinionating is not the same as negotiating and cutting a deal with adversaries.

The Speaker of the House got a repeal vote on Obamacare in the Senate. That is more than any pundit or arm chair general has done. There is a big difference between doers and advocates (or opinion makers).

Sarah has been targeted, attacked, mocked, and ridiculed by democrats and the media in an unprecedented way ever since McCain chose her.

Most politicians would have been broken by it. I don’t blame her for leaving the governorship because the opposition was trying to tie her up in court for years to come.

I admire Sarah and think she would make an excellent conservative president. If that doesn’t happen, she will still be an important voice.
