What is Sarah Palin up to? She is touring the country in a campaign bus, appearing at campaign rallies, making campaign speeches, drawing campaign crowds. But, she insists, it’s no campaign. Or at least that she’s no candidate.
In 1995, General Colin Powell paralyzed the Republican nominating process by flirting with running for president as he toured America signing his new book. He ultimately didn’t run, but he sold a lot of books and monopolized the nation’s attention for months in the autumn.
In 2007, Barack Obama toured America signing books and used the tour to animate his image and spun it off into a campaign.
In 2011, Donald Trump didn’t even write a book but dominated the media by acting like a candidate before he dropped out.
And now, Sarah Palin who has neither a new book nor a candidacy, is running around sucking up all the media attention.
Why? Is she preparing to run? We doubt it. The polling suggests that she could not be nominated. More than one Republican Primary voter in four feels that she has too much baggage to be elected. While most like her and many love her, large swaths of GOP primary voters are worried that she would pave the way for four more years of Obama.
Higher speaking fees? Better TV ratings? More personal visibility? Likely all are motivations. Maybe she is doing it for the same reason Bill Clinton gave for his affair with Monica “because I could.” Perhaps she just wants one final go-round before attention shifts to those who are really running for president.
In any case, Sarah Palin is doing a disservice to her party. There are many good candidates wanting to nurture their infant campaigns who cannot grow in Palin’s shadow. How are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, or Jon Huntsman to attract national attention when Sarah is breathing in all the oxygen? And how can good potential candidates like South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint or Texas Governor Rick Perry to test the waters when Palin’s bus is on the highway?
Mitt Romney, the front runner, is the main beneficiary of the Palin tour. In the aftermath of Huckabee’s and Trump’s withdrawals, the former Massachusetts Governor has consolidated his status as the candidate out in front. Normally, this accolade would earn him searing media coverage and unwelcome attention to any defect in his record or his past. But not now. All eyes are on Palin and Romney can continue raising money and attracting supporters in peace.
Sarah needs to get into the race or stay out. What she should not do is attract the attention just because she can.
Dick says she isnt going to run.
That means she probably will.
We don’t know what it is, but Sarah has a plan, and whatever it is, it is working. Stop whining, and enjoy this masterful spanking of the media. It’s fun.

Shut up, Dick. Sarah did not invite the media. The media is giving her bus tour national attention. Palin is playing by a different set of rules. I think it’s great and pray for her and her family’s safety while they are out on the road.
If and when she announces, it will be in it’s own time - right on time.
She 'can't win', but somehow is destroying the chances of 'good candidates' just by driving around in a bus.
Dumbass Morris obviously doesn't want to engage with this colossal disconnect.

I’m guessing Bachmann. (who is actually working for Romney.)
I would crawl on my hands and knees through broken glass if it could prevent that worthless, phony, p.o.s. Romney from getting the nomination.
This is, what, the second article in two days by Morris that hits the same anti-Sarah points. Apparently Morris is all-in for somebody else.
She reminds me of Secretariat. I love the end of that movie.
Even if Sarah does not run, she is setting the stage for the Republicans who will run. She is setting the standard for what Bachmann or Cain or even Perry must attain to.
And - even better - she has set the standard for which Mitt has already failed at.

And she's not required to follow anyone's timetable, as long as she meets the proper filing deadlines. I'll dispense with the "when and if" statements, as only the self-deluded believe she isn't going to run.

The non-verbals during this interview made me want to vomit.
What evidence do you have that Bachmann is working for Romney? You diehard Palin supporters are becoming too much. She’s a nice lady who was a good governor and has been treated horribly, but she isn’t God Almighty.
Sarah is building up conservative EXCITEMENT - she is sucking the oxygen away from Obama and from milquetoasts and RINOS like Romney and T-Paw, Huntsman, Johnson, and whoever else is running
She is actually becoming the target and taking the MEdia fire that would be sent their way, if the MEdia had time or interest in them She is lifting up hope and energy among people who are tired and too sick to even watch the obama flacks on TV, and that now includes the flakey FOX news
She will direct this energy she is building into her own candidacy - or channel it to whomever she believes is the best candidate for our values and our nation - maybe someone who also is not yet in the race (Perry?)
She is asking for none of this coverage, paying the MEdia for none of this airtime
Dick, maybe should beg to get on her support team. She is taking campaigning into whole new territory and he is gonna be left in the dust.
I wasn't certain before. Now I am. When Dick says no I know she will run. :-)
