'President of Tea Pary America'
The Politico ^ | September 5, 2011 | Maggie Haberman

A fresh Ben dispatch on Sarah Palin:

Sarah Palin all but declared her candidacy for President of Tea Party America here Monday, focusing her address to a crowd of more than a thousand conservatives on the future of the movement itself.

With a yellow “Don’t Tread on Me” flag flying behind her, Palin did not hint either at a White House candidacy or an endorsement of any of the GOP’s current crop of candidates. Instead, she seemed to focus on establishing herself and the tea party as a freestanding force in a Republican Party whose presidential candidates threaten to sap the energy from the organized, outside movement.

“The tea party movement is bigger than any one person and it’s not about any one candidate, and thank goodness we don’t have any one single leader,” Palin said.

“We patriots should not focus on petty political squabbles and media game sound-bites,” Palin said, calling instead for a focus on the “broader and more important goals of this movement” — to “replace Obama and return power back to we the people and grow this movement without compromising principles.”

Palin’s speech followed an Iowa address that was more closely focused on national policy and which renewed speculation that she could enter the 2012 race....

This is a different time than when Reagan and Clinton ran. I don’t know if either of them were touring all over the country in a bus giving speeches.

I really don’t care what the “press” is saying. I think that people are beginning to feel that Palin is stringing them along. Folks are trying to look at the candidates and determine who the nominee should be.

“Give it a rest.” A thread was posted on Free Republic. I read the comments and made a few. YOU give it a rest.

Another tired talking point.

Also, she’s not the president of the Tea Party. The tea party is well-served to NOT have a designated leader.

Palin did not declare herself "President of the Tea Party". Those are Politico's words.

What Palin did say about the subject...

I know. I’ve seen the label given in other places, though and even by some Tea Partiers. I’m glad she’s correcting that.

Because they aren't listening to HER and keep passing around talking points as if they were original. They aren't.

Seriously, I'm sorry, but some of you people are just bizarre.

I didn't pass along "talking points" I gave my opinion. I think she missed her opportunity to run this cycle.

And I don't care if you find my opinion original or not. The reason my opinion is not very original is because its pretty freaking obvious to anybody. It is very unlikely she's running for president because her window of opportunity has passed.

You're free to have your own opinion, and I won't get mad and imagine you're part of some grand conspiracy to have a different opinion than me.

I like Sarah Palin very much, despite the bizarre moonie nature of some her supporters around here. I hope she finds an important role in the coming administration, whoever the candidate is.

You know what's bizarre? Reading an anti-Palin post and seeing the exact same post on 4 different threads all posted by 5 different people. Then for the rest of the day that's what you see posted. EVERYBODY that's anti-Palin posts the same thing. It'll be debunked or explained again and again and posters will continue to post it.

I think she missed her opportunity to run this cycle.

Becoming a candidate ends at the end of October. The press is vetting the other candidates. Sarah has already had a colonoscopy along with her children. She jumps in and no one else will be discussed. You want a vetted candidate or not?

The reason my opinion is not very original is because its pretty freaking obvious to anybody.

Unless one thinks outside the elitist political class box we've been forced into. The press and political class pick candidates. We only think we do. I don't want the next one in line for a favor. Do you? Remember it was Soczzafavas "turn". And the Republican machine couldn't understand WHY that made voters angry.

Like I said, you haven't been listening to Palin.

That's exactly what I mean by bizarre!

"I don't think she's going to run for president this cycle." is NOT anti-anybody!

You people are so screwed up with this bizarro messianic Palin fervor, that any suggestion of anything off-script from the sacred Palin text is heresy.

It's all very creepy and Kim Jong-il-ish. And it's not her fault, it's yours.
