Obama May Not Run For A Second Term
Politicology ^ | September 16, 2011 | Noah Rothman

With President Obama’s political troubles mounting, some analysts are suggesting that President Obama’s Democratic backers may approach him in the very near future and ask him, politely, to forget that second term.

“I’m warning my clients — ‘Don’t run in 2012.” The Hill quotes one unnamed Democratic strategist today, voicing concerns about Obama’s coattails or lack thereof next year.

Wall Street Journal’s John Fund Says Obama’s Backers Are Backing Off:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

“The odds of me being reelected are much higher than the odds of me being elected in the first place,” Obama told a group of Washington D.C. fundraisers on Thursday night. That was meant to reassure Democratic donors rather than scare the bejeezus out of them. He may have accomplished the latter.

Obama has said on numerous occasions that he is perfectly content with serving a single term in the White House. Obama told NBC News in June that there are moments “where I say that one term is enough.” He famously declared in 2009 that if he did not have the economy turned around in three years that his presidency would be a “one term proposition.”

Now rumors emanating from unnamed White House sources are suggesting that the president’ political failures have left Obama on the verge of clinical depression. A Gawker article from September 12 suggested that Obama “has seemed increasingly listless to associates.”

There will be no primary strategy against the president. The money is on his side and the Democratic Party’s black voters would revolt and fracture the party, dooming their chances in 2012. There is a scenario where Obama would demurely reject another run at the presidency… A committee requesting he leave, promising a Supreme Court seat or similar high profile position and replacing him at the top of the ticket with one other popular Democratic politician.

Buyer’s remorse among Democrats and the nation in general, is high. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Obama’s chief rival for the Democratic nomination in 2008, is now the country’s most popular politician. President Obama’s political troubles would be undone by Hillary Clinton. She could reverse the party’s fortunes among working-class white voters who supporter her in the primaries (Hillary carried Ohio and Pennsylvania, two state’s that will be battlegrounds in 2012 and sponges of Democratic campaign dollars). Memories of the Clinton economy in the 1990s would nearly reverse Obama’s record of failure and the tainted image of the Democratic Party’s handling of the economy.

That does not mean this possibility is around the corner. President Obama, by bowing out, would virtually cede his place in the history books. For a President that has incontrovertibly viewed himself as historic and transitional, that would be a big blow. President Bush left office deeply unpopular and had resigned himself to vindication in the history books. It is less believable that Obama would similarly leave his fortunes to chance.

That said, if Obama did bow out, it would raise Democratic prospects for a win in 2012 exponentially.

Never happen.

Agreed. Not a chance.

“The Dems will allow Obama to retire...”

Guess you meant “allow” to = “force”? They’re beginning to understand the liability he is to the party. It’ll be rough for ‘em, though. If he goes, they look racist (which they are, but that’s another story). If he stays, they lose the election. What to do? (”Jeopardy” music plays...)

Obama May Not Run For A Second Term

I’d say that if he wants to avoid an investigation into GunWalker or Solandra that drives him from office he damn well better not run for another term.

I could see a Kucinich, Nader etc., actually trying a run to the left of Obama and getting some of the far left base
I've been wondering if the hard-core leftists will decide to show their true colors next year and support the Communist/Socialist Party, in part to "punish" Obama for being too moderate. I wouldn't be surprised to see the CPUSA have the best showing in their history, and maybe get enough votes to get matching funds and a guaranteed spot in debates in 2016.

I could see that leading to Obama getting in the low 30s of the popular vote and 0 electoral votes. (This is probably wishful thinking on my part.)

“I don’t think Hillary is likely to pick a woman “

True. So maybe Janet Napolitano is available. (But I did read on ATTAAAACK WAAAATCH that she tends to leave the seat up — and that could get messy.)

“What has Hillary accomplished as SOS? What did she accomplish as Senator?”

As evidenced by the election of the current president, we know that accomplishment is not a prerequisite for a democrat candidate.

My prediction...

Watch Michelle. If she starts cramming in a lot of travel, with or without hubby, Zer0 is not going to run.

There is a lot of world she hasn’t seen, on our dime.

You tell me.

That is the way both the Dems and Republicans work. They will shelter their guy as long as he’s useful, but make no mistake. Everything that Obama has ever done is on file somewhere and could be pulled out if ever needed.

Legislative power can be very addicting, how do you convince somebody to move aside willingly, once he becomes a liability or useless?

You create a file on him for every embarrassing or crominal act he’s ever done and you hold on to it.

If he does it willingly, it would be allowed, by mutual agreement and accomodation. :)

I don't know which would be more fun, hearing him announce he isn't running or watching him lose...... big time. I guess watching him lose the race would be the best because hillary couldn't step in and pick up the pieces.

You tell me.

No you tell me. What have they got that the Republicans are too inept to uncover?

It might happen, for the same reason Nixon resigned.

Gunwalker, Solynra and Lightsquared could all get special prosecuters.

Who says the Republicans are too inept to discover them?
Because the Republicans don’t point it out?

Maybe there’s no political payoff for pointing it out.
What’s the point in proving that Obama might have been a dual citizen until he was running for president and then have the biggest backlash from the media and uninformed citizenry, which might cost a seat or two for pointing it out?

As much as we all despise the Clintons, WJC was probably the greatest politican of our lifetime. Hitlerly running would make it tougher to regain our country.

If the Dems can't run on Obama’s record, then they'll try to run on “Clinton's economy” and the “peace and prosperity of the Clinton years”. We need to be ready with answers.

Who says the Republicans are too inept to discover them?

So what your saying is that the Democrats have hidden information that could force Obama to resign, and that the Republicans also have it but don't see the political payoff in using it? To win the presidency?

If the dems persuade Obama to step aside, no matter how "quietly", there will be massive and continuing rioting in the streets. It won't be safe for the new dem nominee outside of a military fortress.

Unless Obama announces a health problem that precludes his continuing to hold office.
