On Fox News Sunday today, Bill Kristol threw cold water on Herman Cains presidential candidacy, arguing that regardless of his popularity among conservative voters and whether or not his sexual harassment scandal will end up helping or hurting him, there was very little chance in the first place he was ever going to be the Republican nominee.
Chris Wallace brought up Cains contentious exchange with a reporter last night over the allegations over his sexual harassment controversy, and asked the panel if there was a connection between what Cain is currently going through and what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas faced twenty years ago during his nomination process for the bench.
Kristol argued the cases were not the same at all, suggesting there may be more to go on in Cains case than there was with Thomas during the Anita Hill controversy. However, he then took the opportunity to completely dismiss the notion that Herman Cain ever had a chance of winning the Republican nomination.
Hes not going to be the nominee, if I can just be honest here for a minute. He was never going to be the nominee. The support for him, I think, was a symbol of conservative and Republican distrust of some of the frontrunners, willingness to reward someone for being bold, for having comprehensive reform plans, for being an outsider, but I think the air is slowly going to go out of the Herman Cain bubble regardless of the sexual harassment charges.
Juan Williams defended Cain and claimed he was being used as a piñata by the black liberal establishment and argued Kristols point that many people, himself included, did not expect Cain to come as far as he already has in the race.

Look in your mailbox for an early Hanukkah present, Bill!
Eff you bill.
Gees I have to be up at 3:30am for work. You FReepers are keeping me up WELL past my bedtime!!!
I am SO blaming you for my crankiness tomorrow!
When has anything Kristol said — mattered?
Bill’s an Estabilshment Roneyite.
Cain is the frontrunner in some polls. They’re trying to talk his chances away because he’s a threat to the anointed GOP nominee.
Kristol is not particularly conservative. He most certainly doesn’t speak for me. I have a feeling that he doesn’t favor anyone on my top four list.
Bill and the other republican elites picked the 2012 candidate in 2008.
Little Billy Kristol has been wrong
more than he has been RIGHT.
Who is this Bill Kristol and why should I care what he thinks?
Kristol was the fav target of the libs during the whole "PNAC" conspiracy theory nonsense. Just another "progressive" who likes to think of himself as right-leaning, like John McCain (he served as McCain's foreign policy advisor during that messy presidential campaign back in '08).
When has anything Kristol said mattered?
He is a nasally voiced RINO worm. You shouldn’t care.
Kristol hoping for his boy John McCain to throw his hat in the ring for a rematch?
I am so sick of all these progressives...Kristol is a disgrace.
Sorry, BK, you pundits don’t get to decide who our nominee is - we, the voters, do. And we’re not listening to you, in case you haven’t noticed. Herman Cain IS going to be our nominee - DEAL WITH IT.
Did McCain win? NO
There is a need for Tea Party analysts on Fox News.
Bill Kristol is fag. Who cares what he thinks.
And why does anybody still watch Fox Snooze Sunday? I mean really FOX is the all Romney all RINO all the time network? I stopped watching when those PoS one Sunday referred to my retirement from the military as an entitlement.
I don’t know yet who will be the republican nominee since the convention isn’t until August of 2012 and anything can and probably will happen. I have listened to every candidate and did so with an open mind. Have compared whose views were closest to mine and my man is NEWT. Santorum..why is he still in the race? he is the most socially conservative. Ron Paul will stay in no matter what..the man is like the energizer bunny...he keeps running and running and running. Paul is a quart low imo. Huntsman is a loser and a joke...and Bachman is no Sarah Palin. My man is NEWT:)
I don’t understand why you can only be pro-Cain or anti-Cain .
There is little middle ground in this forum.
I agree Cain will not be the nominee, and that is not because i’m anti Cain.
Who do you see winning the nomination?
