Matthews: Newt a 'devil' sent to 'kill' Obama
The Washington Examiner ^ | December 13, 2011 | Joel Gehrke

Remember when liberals blamed Sarah Palin's rhetoric for the shooting Rep. Gabbie Giffords, D-Ariz.? Hold that thought, and consider that MSNBC's Chris Matthews developed a sustained allusion to Goethe's Faust in order to call Newt Gingrich a "false god of hatred" and a "devil" sent by the Republican primary voters to "kill" President Obama.

"Why are [Republicans] on the verge of enlisting in the Army of Newt?" Matthews asked rhetorically last night. "Because he voices in cold, nasty, deadly tones the words of their contempt. Because he an opportunist ready to seek any route to his opponent's heart and thereby kill it. He is a political killer, a gun for hire."

Republicans desire more than anything "the few minutes of national television in which the President and his wife stand before them in defeat," Matthews said, explaining that "that's why they're offering up their partisan souls, why they're ready to bow down before this false god of hatred. They will give their souls to Newt - their compact with the devil - to get what they most want - pain on their enemy."

To recap: Chris Matthews described Gingrich as a "devil" and a "false god" during a segment in which he criticized Republicans -- and the former Speaker chief among them -- for the "voic[ing] in cold, nasty, deadly tones the words of their contempt."

Matthews' use of such violent (metaphorical) imagery would be less notable if he hadn't faulted Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., for contributing to an atmosphere of weaponry in politics, and if he hadn't criticized the Tea Party for bringing weapons to Tea Party rallies, during a segment on Giffords, while deploring "the violent level of the right-wing in this country."

I’ve come to the belief that, all kidding aside, there is something seriously wrong with Chris Matthews. I’m old enough to remember his CNBC days from the mid-to-late 1990s. He was a lefty back then too, of course. But the guy’s show was actually pretty informative and he was relatively even-handed in his treatment of his guests. Now he just froths at the mouth and shrieks nonsense.

I’m not saying Gingrich is perfect - far from it. But “devil” and “false god”? That’s goony-bird talk.

Prissy Chrissy just gave Newt a huge boost. Having tingles against you is probably the best “endorsement” a Democrap can give.

You're wrong, Chris. I plan to relish it for months.

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

I don’t know, seems like the Democrats are self-destructing. How can you take a guy like Matthews seriously?

“Chris Mathews needs to ease up on the drugs. Either that or increase the meds.”

I agree something is mentally wrong with him. He needs to seek some professional help.

Chrissie still gets the leg tingle, but now it’s a warm river flowing down his leg.

Seriously, the kinds of stuff Chrissie says makes you think he’s totally lost what marbles he might once have had.

Perhaps Larry Sinclair’s pseudonym is “Crissy”, and Crissy keeps having tingly, happy flashbacks of the back seat of that limo. Maybe he is another “Deepthroat”. (Pun DEFINATELY intended)
