Three new polls show former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gaining on Mitt Romney in South Carolina and emerging as the clear conservative choice of voters who are not backing the former Massachusetts governor for the Republican presidential nomination.
An Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion Research survey completed on Thursday shows that Gingrich is actually in a statistical tie with Romney in South Carolina, with 21.3 percent of the vote to Romneys 23.1.
Gingrich leads Romney in several demographic groups, including voters 18 to 29 years old, black voters, male voters, and Independents.
Ron Paul and Rick Santorum each received 13 percent of the vote.
The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Republican voters in South Carolina finds Romney ahead with 28 percent of the vote, but Gingrich has moved into second place with 21 percent. Santorum had been in second a week ago, but has now fallen back to 16 percent, dead even with Paul.

This is a positive trend.
GO NEWT! Newt/Santorum ticket would do very nicely. They need to make a deal.
I hope the trend continues. There is still time.
If its a tie Romney has lost.
Yeah!!!!
Go Newtie Patootie:)
Send Mitt home to MA.
I sure hope so!
YES!
GO NEWT!
Why don’t one of the candidates ask Mittens why he spent 130 million to run in ‘08, and probably 200 million this year, for a 400K job?
The RCP average is Mitt only +4.7!
Santorum needs to drop out, he is not going to win the nomination.
Newt is the only one who can stop Romney.
Very positive. Maybe some folks are realizing they need to gather around a viable candidate if we are to have a chance. It would be great to see our side undergo some spontaneous rationality and focus.
These polls are just showing variation within the margin of error. Until someone starts going up or down outside that margin, the race has not changed.

Santorum is excellent, but he doesn’t have the attack-dog toughness Newt does.
He’s not a winner. Yet. He’s good, and learning.
Gingrich is our champion.
Santorum should throw his support to Gingrich. The time is now.
Agreed this romney needs to Be taken Down ,but the Establishment wants him and The People are to Brainwashed by the Media to do something other thatn what their Masters tell them
Between Newt, Romney and Paul when does the real conservative come to the rescue.
She was destroyed by the media, RINOs, academia, nutroots, White House, nutroots, elitists and others. Remember?
