PLANTATION, Fla. -- With polls showing Mitt Romney on track for a convincing victory in Tuesday's Republican primary in this state, the one silver lining for Newt Gingrich may be the acceleration of a sorting-out process that is driving more prominent conservatives toward the former House speaker as a parade of establishment GOP leaders rally around Romney.
The most powerful dynamic in Florida over the past week has been the Romney campaign's success at blunting the momentum from Gingrich's South Carolina win by seeding a gardenful of personal and political doubts about him. But the sheer ferocity (and success) of that assault, delivered in many cases by pillars of the GOP establishment like former presidential nominees John McCain and Bob Dole, has prompted leading conservative figures like Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, and talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin to deepen their identification with Gingrich in response.
In that way, the Florida result could both re-establish Romney as the favorite to win the nomination -- and potentially strengthen Gingrich's ability to contest him as the calendar turns toward states with a more conservative Republican electorate than Florida. "It has become much more explicit that Romney is an establishment, status-quo-type candidate," said long-term conservative activist Jeffrey Bell, policy director at the American Principles Project. "Conservatives are being driven toward Gingrich's camp to keep the conversation going."
In the near-term, there's no question Florida appears ready to restore Romney as the race's clear front-runner....

Thanks Rick
Brownstein is a hard-core lib.
Right. Santorum needs to take one for the team like Perry did. Get out and support Newt.
I “accidentally” tuned in to B’OR for a few. Sabato and some other pollster are talking of a double digit, “landslide” win for Mittens tomorrow...and that he is the inevitable nominee, blah, blah, blah.
This followed Hume who did his nightly Romnuts slobber too.
Freepers: Please vote in the Factor poll for who will win tomorrow.

I did as well, as soon as I saw your post. True to my earlier committment, I matched it to FR.
Santorum just told BOR he’s staying in. Just like the article states, that helps Romney defeat Gingrich by splitting the Christian vote.
Romney is using the tactics of the Left: scorched earth, personal destruction to attack Gingrich, but not Santorum.
Wise-up voters! NO ROMNEY, NO WAY!
VOTE GINGRICH AND SEND MONEY TO HIM.
(Sarah Palin & Newt Gingrich to appear on Sean Hannity’s TV show tonight).
Thank you for voting!
Newt Gingrich 40.08% (9,275 votes)
Mitt Romney 31.85% (7,371 votes)
Rick Santorum 4.52% (1,045 votes)
Ron Paul 23.56% (5,453 votes)
Done, thanks for the heads up.
No way that's going to happen!! He was just on Bill Oreilly's show & said he has a good chance..so he's staying in the race.
I'm thinking that he's thinking he's the man if Gingrich is DOA.
I, for one will not vote for Santorum. I don't like what he's doing. He's young & has time to run again in the future & he's giving no consideration to how critical this election is for our country. He's splitting the conservative vote & letting Romney walk away with the nomination.
I just can't vote for someone who could do that.
I am enraged at Rick Santorum right now. I was already getting there, but the very idea that this man has a child who could possibly, G-d forbid, die at any moment and nearly did over the weekend, is being touted as the ‘reason’ santorum is running for office during a live appearance on o’reilly tonight galls me no end. That they take this child on the campaign trail knowing that any illness, no matter how minor, could kill her is abuse. AND the fact that his other young children are stuck with caregivers while their parents campaign for an office he has no prayer of winning is the epitome of selfishness the likes of which I have never seen.
I am praying that all these shrills for Romney will be changing their undies that are in a twist tomorrow when the votes come in. :-)
Delivered by RINO LOSERS like John McCain and electile dysfunctional Bob Dole.
I know I'm impressed by the jettisoned baggage of the GOP's past failures. You want pillars? How about Mondale and Dukakis? LOL.
I can write too, mediot.
I'll be watching.
The paulbots are in there.

That was of course aimed at Brownstain.
BTW, bless you for your contribution. We will persevere!
I’ll be sending another $50.
I can't hardly believe SAntorum would do this unless Newt's team has not yet told him to do so... Santorum mentioned none of the candidates had asked him to drop out...so is he waiting until they do?
Some have said he needs to stay in as if Newt continues to slide we have someone other than Romney...but dang...is there time for all these screwball games!!!!
Ode to the Grand Olde Party, and their BFF, the Obamanator.
When Newt or Paul rocks the Establishment Boat,
The GOP oarsmen pull knives from their boots.
The hacking and slashing puts extreme fighting to shame,
Never, no NEVER rock the Establishment Boat!
They cannot win elections, by choice of their suits,
A RINO Nominee is a Democrat, - - - - one and the same.
Two Party as One Party is what they adore.
Never give voters a choice, or politicians
Are out of life-time jobs, forever more.
As we pay our bills,
And hold our noses
As we vote,
The Obamanator holds
His cold knife to our Countrys throat - - - - .
