Mourdock picks up NRA endorsement in GOP primary (Indiana)

The National Rifle Association is supporting tea-party favorite Richard Mourdock in his GOP primary race against veteran U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar.

National NRA lobbyist Chris Cox is scheduled Wednesday to announce his group's support for Mourdock, the Indiana state treasurer running against Lugar in the May primary.

The Mourdock campaign confirmed the endorsement Tuesday. A handful of high-profile conservative groups have lined up behind Mourdock in his bid to oust Lugar. The anti-tax Club for Growth threw its support behind Mourdock last month.

Lugar's supporters have opened a pair of Super PACs recently to raise unlimited funds to support his re-election campaign.

The NRA endorsement creates more problems for Lugar with his party's conservative base. It also could help Democrats hoping to face off against Mourdock in November.

This is an important primary. Herman Cain has endorsed Mourdock and other conservative leaders need to follow his example. Richard Lugar is Barack Obama’s favorite Republican U.S. Senator. Indiana deserves beter.

I remember long ago Lugar was asked whether he belonged to the NRA and his rather vehement reply that he did not. This may be a case of the chickens coming home to roost.

I’d like to see the same conservative leaders who are challenging National Review’s support for Mitt Romney also challenge Ricard Lugar and endorse Richard Mourdock.

This is good:

Lugar Stance

Dick Lugar has been cited as “Barack Obama’s Favorite Republican” 1 and has seemed star-struck with Obama since they first served together in the Senate. Lugar appeared in a campaign television advertisement for Obama during the 2008 presidential election, then went on to serve as a co-chair for Obama’s inaugural committee, 2 and is now co-sponsoring several pieces of liberal legislation supported by President Obama. 3

Mourdock Stance

Richard Mourdock does not support Barack Obama. Obama’s agenda of runaway federal spending and expanded government control over nearly every aspect of the economy is contrary to the tradition of free enterprise and limited government that makes America great. Mourdock is a loyal Republican who has campaigned tirelessly across Indiana for Republican candidates.

Reported recently the Murdock is short on cash...Lugar has the support of the National RNC Senate committee.

Any one with a few extra dollars to send would be appreciated.

This is the reason that NO TRUE CONSERVATIVE should give money to the the RNC or any of its committees. If you’re in a position to donate, do so directly to true conservatives such as Murdock and/or PACs that support conservatives (such as Jim Demint’s).

How any conservative can support Richard Lugar in 2012 is beyond me. This time there is an eminently electable, conservative Republican alternative in Richard Mourdock, and, unlike in 2006 (when the environment was toxic for Republicans), there is no chance that the Dems can win the seat in November.

Of course, one would also think that Lugar would like to retire to his home in Virginia and make even easier money serving on boards of directors and such, but he likes to be called “Chairman” and would like to become President Pro Tempore of the Senate. I hope that Hoosier Republicans don’t give him the pleasure, and that conservatives across the nation pitch in to help make it happen.

Yes, but Lugar could sell all those walnut tress he owns at a cool $25K per and just buy a vote at will.

This is one primary which I hope to see a turnover. Richard Lugar has been in the Senate for way too long and has become part of the problem.

Sorry I’m late to the thread.

But anyway, wow, if I had a festering gunshot wound for every RINO or democrat scumbag that the NRA has endorsed over the past several years I’d have more holes in me than Sandra Fluke and Lindsay Lohan at a Swiss Cheese tasting.

It sure is swell for them to make a good one for a change.
