Dewhurst booed at Texas Republican Convention
The Hill ^ | June 11, 2012 | Cameron Joseph

Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) was booed at his state party's convention on Saturday, a warning sign for the Senate candidate as he heads into his runoff against former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz (R) as well as a sign of the increasing discord within the state party.

Dewhurst received a tepid response to his speech and was booed when he sought to subtly attack Cruz and the outside groups backing him, according to the Texas Tribune.

"This runoff is a clear election between a lifelong conservative businessman, a conservative leader, a Washington outsider and a lawyer who is funded principally by Washington special interests," Dewhurst said, drawing boos and catcalls from the state party delegates in attendance.

Dewhurst drew more jeers when he attacked the fiscally conservative Club for Growth, which spent heavily for Cruz in the first round of voting, calling its members "Washington special insiders" who would run ads "attacking Texas."

Ridiculous. Dewhurst has probably the strongest record for conservative legislation passed of anyone in a like statewide position in the nation.

Don’t be stupid. Dewhurst is a lying RINO sack of organic fertilizer. Are you getting paid to post here, or are you just volunteering for the Dewhurst campaign.

FWIW, I interviewed that sack of fertiler th efirst time he ran. Everything he said about taxes was a lie.

The claim about the trial lawyers is a smear, buddy.

If you cannot provide a similar example of State of Texas even attempting anything like this, we will all know, for sure, that YOU ARE A TROLL.

We are a LAUGHING STOCK in conservative circles because of your hero and the governor...and even you know it (when you’re off the clock).

I’m not your buddy, and everything I post about Cruz is objective reality. You just can’t handle it.

And since when is being a trial lawyer a smear? Why, being a trial lawyer is being a member of an ancient and honorable profession!

Dewhurst stepped in it with the false attribution against Cruz, trying to connect him directly to representation for some Chinese firm needing legal advise. That law firm Cruz works for has 1200 lawyers, and maybe a hand full worked on the Chinese business assignment. Cruz was not one of those.

That lying ad ran constantly in the Houston area and many fell for it, before the damage could be undone. It’s a wonder Cruz ran as well as he did after that smear job. Dewhurst is likely not done with the low road yet.

Dewhurst has 250,000,000.00 of personal fortune to spend as he wishes against whom he wishes and plenty of Democrats to help him. We are hoping the name “Cruz” on the ballot will perk up the Hispanic vote.

We’re ready for new blood to thin the entrenched, who play both sides against the conservatives. Cruz will be a conservative, because that’s who is voting for him and he knows it.

Amazing post there, Bob, because it shows that you are totally oblivious to the fact Dewhurst got one of the strongest voter ID laws in the nation passed and the State of Texas is LEADING the legal fight for it against the misnamed Dept. of Justice, right now!

http://electionlawblog.org/?p=31583

So, now you know. And, your posting YOU ARE A TROLL in caps, has only made you look, well, uninformed.

You lie.

There was NO false attribution about Cruz in that case whatsoever.

Cruz is the attorney of record in that case and he is leading the appeal of a judgement already won by an American in court in a jury trial against the Chinese firm that stole his designs and the Cruz delaying tactics are successfully enabling the Chinese Corporation to manufacture and make money on their thievery to this day.

Conservative my ass. Dewhurst and Joe Straus both need to be drummed out of the Texas GOP once and for all. They conspired to torpedo the Sanctuary cities ban bill last year. any and all political methods must be used to destroy their careers and blacklist them permanently.

I’m sorry, what happened to the Sanctuary Bill? A lot of us are STILL WONDERING.

Sure, Voter ID - his (and Perry’s) one bone to the conservatives. If he hadn’t at least gotten that through, he probably wouldn’t have lasted very long the next time he stepped out of Austin (assuming, that is, he’s ever stepped out of Austin).

We are so far behind that you’re forced to bloviate on Voter ID...too funny.

I never agree with you on much of anything so I wonder why your avid interest in more of the same ole, same old. You know, Cruz has sworn to lay across the railroad track if that’s what it takes to stops Obamacare. Dewhurst prefers to analyze it to death, which always includes ice & tea with Democrats.

Check this out:

From a Texas Monthly commenter to a Burka column....

” John from Houston says:

This is all pretty silly. He’s a lawyer defending a client. John Adams defended the redcoats involved in the Boston Massacre, and that didn’t make him a loyalist. Abraham Lincoln actually defended BOTH sides of the slavery issue.

The real question, considering the obviously planted nature of this story, is why is liberal icon Paul Burka shilling for David Dewhurst? Is he the only hope for Democrats, considering they don’t have a serious candidate of their own running for Senate? “

Maybe one of them isn’t really a Conservative?????

Yeah, you should be sorry, because I answered your challenge “provide a similar example of State of Texas even attempting anything like this” and all you can think of to say in favor of your Goldman Trial Lawyer is point to some bill that didn’t pass last year.

One bone to conservatives? Baloney, Dewhurst got one of the best, strongest, bullet-proof pro-life bills passed since Roe v. Wade in the Texas sonogram bill. There’s lots more, but no matter how many bills and issues I cite to prove Dewhurst is a great conservative, you and Cruz will just come up with some politically impossible proposal and say Dewhurst could have done this, or that.

So, I’ve answered your questions, shown that your accusations are crap, you have had your shot, and you blew it.

If you are wondering, I’ll tell you. I am just interested in the truth. I just don’t like to see a good conservative like Dewhurst slandered about his record, then when he points out the truth about who his opponent is and what he does, being told by people like you that Dewhurst has “stepped in it”. The heck he has. It is Cruz that has stepped in it.

I wonder why you keep repeating the same old lies and continue to deny the reality of the Cruz appeals and delaying tactics and being attorney of record in his representation of the Chinese theives.

This story originated in a liberal rag similar to the Dallas Observer.

You can believe it if you want to, but I don’t.

I’m sure there were scattered boos from Cruz supporters, but Dewhurst is popular in Texas (he won, after all) and I can’t believe he was roundly booed

Cruz is the choice of at least one branch of the Tea Party and was endorsed by Sarah Palin.

That is not enough to get my vote.

I can’t find a single Cruz supporter who can explain to me why Cruz would be better for Texas than Dewhurst.

It seems to be just a backlash against a guy who’s been in politics a long time, no matter how good a job he’s done.

You definitely have support from me on your posts, ngat, and you actually know something about the situation.

Others here seem to be willing to buy an outsider’s recommendation with no facts attached.

And, sadly enough, the usual suspects resort to personal attacks and being hateful.

I asked a Cruz supporter, in all sincerity, what in particular recommended Cruz. She replied something like, “he’s not an establishment rino.” (only she used rather more nasty words to express this)

Just brilliant. The runoff is yet to come and I am a Texas voter. You’d think Cruz supporters would want to give me a reason to vote for him, but they don’t seem to have one.

Well, you are not a bit cute and so far no one has given me a reason to vote for Cruz, including you.

Did we once have political discussions on this site that were absent childish personal insults?

I think we did, but it’s been a while.

Yea, the nastiness started when Governor Perry tried to pass himself off as a conservative and his lackies on this site parroted his claims (especially that babe from Ohio).

Thankfully we took care of that problem (i.e., go ask the Tea Party what they think of Perry now)...and it’s just Dewhurst...and we’ll hopefully have the party purged (Perry’s a lame duck due to the idiot he made of himself in the primaries).

Hopefully then we can get back to civil discussions.

Yes, you did an excellent job.

You brutalized the absolute most conservative and experienced guy running for president on the Republican ticket.

Perry’s accomplishments are fabulous and his plans for re-vamping the U.S. government even better.

And you are proud of destroying this man while at the same time you bemoan the fact that you got Romney.

I address this post to you, not to educate you because that will never happen, but for the benefit of others who might be reading this thread.
