Obama's latest election tactic: Judge Judy
The Winnipeg Free Press / The Washington Post ^ | August 4, 2012 | T.W. Farnam

AMONG the ads for toothpaste and dish detergent, the loyal viewers of daytime television are seeing a new pitch: Support President Obama.

Judge Judy, in fact, has become one of the favourite venues for the Obama campaign and its allies to reach sympathetic voters. When the courtroom reality show featuring a sharp-tongued former judge airs in swing states, it often comes with ads telling viewers that Republican candidate Mitt Romney uses tax havens and as a businessman has shipped jobs overseas.

The show is considered an ideal vehicle for commercials pushing the president's re-election because such courtroom programs are watched by a large number of African Americans -- twice the average share for television in general. Those shows also disproportionately draw Hispanics, another voting bloc critical for an Obama victory.

With the president and Romney virtually tied in the polls, targeted TV ads have become a central strategy to shore up support for Obama among voters who turned out in force in 2008.

"They're trying to get people who they can count on," said Tad Devine, a top media strategist for Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. "There's not a big audience to persuade out there, so the respective sides are going to their corners."

That kind of political spending is part of a shift away from advertising during local news broadcasts, long considered a natural spot for campaign ads because they draw the most politically active audience. For more than a decade, both Democrats and Republicans have been gradually moving toward niche audiences who tune in to certain network shows or cable channels...

If Mr. Obama has to preach to the choir, he's already lost the election. I'd love to see the recent internal polls.

When Obama puts out truthless ads to try to appeal to the masses, Romney would do well to immediate counter them with a much more convincing and well done ad. When are people running against these destroying sycophants, going to realize that they need to COMMUNICATE!!!!! And it needs to be done consistently, truthfully and with skill, not in stupid, mind numbing sound bites. It should not be thought that a certain group doesn’t matter, but the great need is to get relevant facts out to every front and let them do their work!

I agree. In a turn out election Obama loses. Who is excited about voting FOR him more than those who are excited about voting AGAINST him?

He not only needs 95% of the Black Vote he needs 95% of Blacks TO vote. That ain't gunna happen. They LAREADY elected the black guy, it is already passe. They are now worried about work and bankruptcy like every one else. Too Worried to spend too much energy the GOTV.

Obama is done, all the polls show he can not get above 50% and the election is way to close to change any minds. Romney can't even run a full campaign because he is constrained by spending limits until he after the convention.

Just think of devastating adds he can run just by showing Obama talking.

REALLY??? HALF of FREEPERS won’t vote for Romney, either because he’s not PURE enough or because he’s a MORMON!! If our fellow Freepers can’t see what will happen if Obama wins again, then people on the right aren’t as smart as I always thought they were. We will PROVE that we’re the STUPID PARTY because we demand that we are the PURE PARTY.

The theme in the Piedmont NC region black Community (yes, “THE Community”, in case you haven’t picked up on this code word) is that Obama MUST be re-elected in order to preserve a future for other black politicians.

If Obama is defeated, they believe that all Black politicians will be regarded as incompetent amateurs.

p.s. they also believe no true Black would ever be a conservative or Republican.

It has nothing to do with purity...

It has nothing to do with him being a mormon...

He is a big government socialist....

That is the only reason...

If you are going to make a statement, at least make a correct statement...

our socialist is no better than their socialist...

a socialist is a socialist is a socialist..

don’t blame me, and don’t even blame mcromney, he is what he is...

blame the party of socialist lite..

blame the gop-e

Check the ages of the Supreme Court justices. Scalia is I believe 78, Ginsburg is 81, there are a few others that are approaching retirement. The next president could appoint 2 or 3 Supreme Court justices. Who would you prefer makes that choice 0'Bimbo or Romney? The difference will impact our nation immensely. Can you imagine Supreme Court Justice Eric Holder?

Anybody that watches Judge Judy probably watches a dozen other shows just like. They don’t have the time or motivation to go out and vote. ;-)

Obama has to run against Romney, against Bush, against Conservatives, against the Tea Party, against Republicans, against Congress [just the Republican part], because he doesn’t have much of a record to run on himself.

But, hey, the INCREASE in unemployment from 8.2% to 8.3% is hailed by Team Obama as a good thing, because it indicates that things are improving.

Uhhh? More unemployed is better??? We may not survive another 4 years of more of the same.

Exactly what I thought. If he doesn’t have 90% of the black voter locked up then it will be the landslide I’m hoping for.

“our socialist is no better than their socialist...”

That’s just not very smart. What amazes me out of all the anti-defeating Obama folks here is how with Romney every position he ever held in his life, every statement he ever made and every action he ever took that wasn’t 100% conservative is now considered his current policy. You all never held ANYONE previously to that, including some so-called 100% conservatives that are still worshiped here.

She is so outspoken and disgusted with the litigants on her show that are living on her tax dollars. They claim disability and she hits back. They are on unemployment and she asks how long because she wants to let the taxpayers see what they are paying for. She’s so obviously disgusted by these people who are sucking the taxpayer dry. She slams them and belittles them every chance she gets.

(I became a big fan of her show when Obama took office because I refused to watch the 6pm news broadcasts drooling over him.)

100% conservative!!!???!!!

how about 0%..

father of the 50 dollar abortion..

father of fubocare...

wrote his own assault weapons ban when the federal one expired...

raised taxes more than any other before him..

passed more regulations than any other before him..

put more liberal judges on the bench than any other before him..

and, unlike reagan who was DECADES removed from the dem party and liberalism, all this is recent history ( like, the past 6 or so years )..

yes, a leopard can change his spots, but nowhere near that quick...

when he wanted to be governor, he was willing to say anything to anyone to get votes..

he is doing the same thing now..

There are none so blind as those that will not see....

In the scheme of things there are very few FREEPERS and those that are are ultra conservative often to a fault.

Name ONE person, or group of people that did not vote for Obama that will vote for him now. There isn't ONE. How many that did vote for him WILL NOT vote for him again? Millions. Obama only won 52.6% of a large turn out election. No way as many vote as did before and no way he carries as high a percentage OF ANY group that he did before, including African Americans.

It has nothing to do with the party elites. There vote only counts once. It is the fault of the people who voted for Romney in the primaries. They are the Republican Party members. I didn't vote for him, you didn't, allot here didn't, but millions of registered Republicans did vote for him. For whatever reason.

That gives us Romney. He is easier to control with a Republican House and Senate than Obumles is and significantly less dangerous to the Republic.

Now, you are probably a friend, so I will say this gently...

voter turnout was less than 20%....

That means a minority of voters gave us this socialistic nacacisstic big government a$$hole of a candidate..

I did my job..

You did your job..

TENS of MILLIONS of registered voters did not do their job..

I will not make life easy on those that refuse to do their basic god given duty...

when roberts gave his opinion on fubocare ( and like it or not, it restored more rights to the people than any other decision from the supremes in 80 years ) he chastised the voting population..

he was dead on right..

I will not cast my ballot for a socialist..

My name will not be marked next to one that supports abortion on demand, gun control, and the nomination of liberal judges...

among other things...

If you support all the above, then you are free to vote for him, I will not put you down, call you names, or anything else..

do not bitch when he does everything you are against, or does not do anything that you stand for..

Because, I will be waiting....
