10 reasons why Paul Ryan could help Mitt Romney become US President
The London Daily Mail ^ | August 11, 2012 | Toby Harnden

Until a fortnight ago, it looked like Mitt Romney wanted to make the safest, least dramatic vice-presidential pick possible, a running mate who would be the unPalin - someone who would be a news story for the day but would not alter the shape of the campaign. Someone like Tim Pawlenty or Rob Portman.

Either this approach was a feint all along or something changed as the 2012 campaign descended into petty, slimy negativity and Romney began to slip slightly in the polls despite a terrible economy and unemployment rising to 8.3 percent.

Choosing Ryan is a bold and surprising - though by no means as outlandish as Sarah Palin in 2008 - choice. Vice-presidential running mates seldom have a major impact on the outcome of a presidential election. But this time, Ryan might make a difference - here are 10 reasons why:

1. The image of Romney as a safety-first campaigner hoping to win the presidency by default as voters turfed out Barack Obama will now disappear. The Ryan pick indicates Romney is prepared to take a calculated risk and be decisive. He's going big, rather than small. At a time when the US faces huge problems, that could be a major advantage.

2. Fears of the Republican base not turning out for Romney will now evaporate. In terms of unifying Establishment conservatives and grassroots activists, Ryan is a winner...

“There will be some questions about whether a 42-year-old with no executive experience could be ready to be president should something happen to Romney.”

***

I’ve been hearing this “no experience” BS all day. Just what is Obama’s executive experience?

Golfing and fundraising don’t count.

Great choice. I have been hoping for weeks this would be his choice.

Great article.

Great analysis.

I am extremely upbeat regarding all of this.

It also helps that someone on the ticket disagrees with Obama.

The addition of Ryan clinches the election -— IF the media gives the logical, common-sense and truthful views of the R&R Restoration Team a fair play.

Uh-huh. As if.

The liberal fascists of the media don’t want a free and prosperous America, they want THEIR America.

R&R is a fabulous team, but they are going to have to somehow overcome a powerful and antagonistic MSM.

Godspeed.

I have mixed feelings on the matter. I like Ryan. If mitt wins we lose a valuable Conservative in the Congress. But we gain a powerful tie-breaking vote in the Senate in the event we don't get enough Conservative senators in this time around.

My local and state GOP candidates are excellent Conservatives, and with Ryan on the ticket it's like having a big icecream sundae, but with mitt at the top, it's like somebody came by and plopped a moose pellet where the cherry was supposed to go.

Sure you want to eat the rest of the sundae because it only comes around every four years, but how much do you have to scoop off the top in order to not eat any of the moose taint?
