Nervous Heather Starts To Throw Ryan Overboard (NM-Wilson's RINO roots appear)
New Mexico Politics with Joe Monahan ^ | Wednesday, August 22, 2012 | Joe Monahan

GOP US Senate candidate Heather Wilson, running behind in all polling, is now starting to more firmly separate herself from Paul Ryan and his controversial budget plans. She gave this quote as she responded to renewed attacks from Dem rival Martin Heinrich:

...Wilson told The Hill on Tuesday that she has “been very clear that I have concerns about the budget Congressman Ryan proposed 18 months ago,” and voted against a version of it while serving in Congress in 2007. "If I oppose something, that's now recorded as 'implicit'?" Wilson said. “Had I been in the Senate and on the budget committee and the Ryan budget came over, I would have worked on getting an alternative,” Wilson added, elaborating that she has worries about what the Ryan plan would do to Medicare.

It's the right move for Heather, even if the Tea Party doesn't like it. If she is to become the next US Senator for New Mexico she must be the one throwing baggage off the ship, moving to the vital center and redefining Republcianism for a large segment of the New Mexican electorate that has come to revile the brand. No wonder she is not going to next week's national GOP convention.

I was going to give a good donation to her campaign this weekend but will instead give one Michele Bachmann along with our wonderful conservative 2nd District Congressman, Steve Pearce.

As I said in an earlier post, Heinrich is a left-wing environmental radical who opposes oil and gas drilling in favor of windmills and solar panels. He probably will lose the oil patch but his railing against fossil fuel drilling and infrastructure (e.g. Keystone pipeline) likely will win the ABQ area and for sure the SF-Northern NM Dem region. Rasmussen has Democrat Heinrich up by 7 — 48-41, 7 percent undecided. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.5 percent.

He threw himself under that bus. It’s called an unforced error.

“Heinrich up by 7”

Ouch! Let her say whatever she wants.

If I were in her shoes I’d have a ‘friend’ release a report showing a big natural gas find in NM...

Our second district Congressman Steve Pearce shouldn't have any problem winning reelection to another term in Congress. Down here the economy is booming. This from later in the blog:

Joe Craig of Craig and Co., an ABQ consulting firm, writes that not all of New Mexico is acting like a slacker:

Went to Carlsbad and had to book a room two weeks in advance. Motels were booked, restaurants were full. Carlsbad Schools are preparing for a bond in February for $60 million. New $9-10 million addition to the Eddy County Sheriff's office is being awarded for design. Roswell, Artesia, Hobbs all looked prosperous. Of course that is oil or energy money as they call it. Poor little Lovington looked like it needed some loving, but hey one out of 5 towns ain't bad.

Kept mulling over the economic black hole that is ABQ/Santa Fe on the long drive back. The best conclusion that I came to is lack of leadership in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

It's wild down here - I have a tell-tale way of knowing if the economy is booming - watch the convenience stores. If they close at 11 p.m., it's booming as no one wants to work graveyard if there's more money to be made in a day job. Drive down the highway, signs looking for electricians on job sites, drivers with a CDL can set their days and hours, RV's looking for a place to park, rents through the roof. Pages of professional help-wanted ads in the Sunday news paper. City/county coffers overflowing with cash from sales taxes and oil field royalties rebated from the state. Life is good!

Does Heather Wilson have to be a Paul Ryan rubber stamp?
If you aren’t going to donate to her campaign, I heard Todd Akin could use some money.

Its what they call..free market capitalism.

Aint it grand? Problem is..the boom will bust someday, unless, they put up a refinery or two there to transfer those jobs over to manufacturing. Then you will have long term financial stability.

Joe Monahan has become an embarrassment. He proclaims himself to be even-handed, but he has almost a daily litany of attacks on non-existent scandals that he personally tries to stir up against both GOP Gov. Martinez and ABQ Mayor Richard Berry (and even commissioned a poll to see if he successfully tarred Martinez, only to discover her approvals remain above 60%), not to mention regular denounciations of Janice Arnold-Jones (CD-1 GOP nominee) and Heather Wilson as a “loser.” Conversely, he all but ignores Democrat infractions and hasn’t uttered so much as a single negative criticism of Zero, treating the latter as though he is a highly popular and successful President.

It’s no surprise Joe ignored this appalling “interview” last Friday by a local ABQ radio station of “The Won”...
