Random Ruminations: Romney Strategy and Polls

Posted on 09/28/2012 7:16:36 AM PDT by AdamBomb

Point 1: Either Mitt is running the lamest campaign in the history of the GOP (2nd to McCain) OR he has a few surprises for us. If he plays it close to the vest for 4 more weeks, we're done.

Point 2: Could Rasmussen be intentionally keeping his numbers close to even for a few different reasons? To give us hope, but to keep us from getting overconfident??? Is he in the tank?

Point 3: We've heard so much about the money that Romney and Company have, but does the balance sheet reflect reality? For example, the latest numbers say Romney and PACs spent a crapload in August and September. Were these ad buys that are playing now OR were they prepayment for time in October? I cannot find the answer to this anywhere.

Point 4: Our margin of error is so slim, that I cannot figure out why Romney is going to Pennsylvania. On one hand we have "all this money" but on the other hand, he has to go to PA to raise money.

Point 5: Zero is up in many polls, but the internals just don't seem to match. No one seems happy with the issues, yet Zero is ahead. It is incomprehensible to me.

Point 6: Rush is beginning to sound a bit nervous. I don't like that.

Go outside and find something to do.

Seriously, we dont need 12000 vanities of wannabe political analysts trying to work out their jittery nerves by posting every little blasted observation.

“Rush is nervous”? So what? Today he wont be, Monday he may be again. He isnt God. He has no more clue what will happen or not as the next guy.

This is key. I have been thinking he nearly sounds panicky, well for him anyway.

I'm afraid it is the former, and NOT the latter.

I've seen this before - it's the Dole / McLame playbook being re-run play by play.

The Good Book has some good advice for people like Rush:

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:4-7

Don't worry. Trust God.

I think it is clear Romney is behind. Not by nearly as much as the MSM suggests, but he is behind. My guess is probably around 3 points.

Why is he not attacking more? Again, my guess is he wants to see where he stands after the first debate. If he makes up ground there, he will probably continue to play it safe.

If nothing changes, or it gets even worse for him, then I would expect he comes out guns blazing and at the very least fires up the squishy members of our base to come out and vote.

Not a good position for him to be in, but also not even close to being over yet.

Oh, woe is us. It’s all over. I’m not going to vote. There, now the MSM is happy. Mission accomplished.

for the last couple of weeks, his shows have been not been crisp. It sounds like he is not doing any show prep.

With all due respect, how many Presidential campaigns have you run? Any campaigns? What is your experience in politics?

If Free Republic would have been around at this time in 1980 we would have seen much the same comments as now. Reagan was down in the polls to the worst President in history (up to that time)and the media was having a field day trying to disparage Reagan at every turn. He didn’t really turn it around until the debates. This is by no means over.

Pretty good analysis.

I think they have some surprises up their sleeves relative to ads, but more importantly the GOTV effort. I think they are investing heavily in this tactic - they learned from WI. It’s not a ROI you will see until Nov 6th.

Sit tight. Mitt Romney is very smart. He’s not McCain who is happy to have it on his resume, and then head back to the Senate.

Furthermore, Romney is up with indies, and will win almost all undecideds. I think it’ll be 51-48.

What you said! I've said for weeks now I expect it to be in that neighborhood, no matter how hard the drivebys try to drag the Kenyan Marxist over the finish line.

It is discouraging, though, and doesn't bode well for the future of the Republic, that this total incompetent would get even 48%.

Sometimes I think one of Romney’s key advisors is a Dem double agent.

Maybe the KGB kindnapped the real Romney in France, and replaced him with a double.

I live in Texas, so I don't get to see many ads from either candidate. The few I have seen from Romney have been excellent.

Many folks here bemoan the kind of campaign Romney is running, but I think the reason is two-fold: 1) Team Romney has been polling heavily for the past two years and their internals have shown them the (hopefully) right path to victory. 2) This is the kind of guy Romney is, decent and caring. He can be tough but he doesn't play gutter politics like Obama and his Chicago cronies.

Stand strong my FRiends! We're less than 40 days to victory.

I don’t think that’s it, I think he is worried and trying to do his show not sounding worried. Each day it’s harder to do.

I agree with you in principle, maybe not point by point but at least on the issue of Romney’s campaign style.

You drew flak for it, but Kudos. The flak is from wishful thinkers, the overly optimistic and for lack of a better term, clueless.

All things being equal, If Romney continues as he has it will be difficult for him to win.

One of the flak givers has it right though, though they put it in insulting terms .... What’s going on right now is a campaign of hopelessness, make us believe it’s not worth the mental effort and then the physical effort of voting. Diminish our turnout is just as good as winning votes.

The thing is, not to rant and rave about their strategy no matter how obvious it seems, it’s to counteract that strategy with a strategy to keep us enthusiastic about voting against Obama — and Romney’s campaign isn’t doing that.

I’m thinking and hoping all hell breaks loose in October and the Romney Campaign goes on the move with a scorched earth campaign.

Whoever has the momentum going coming up to the election is going to win. Screaming the Media this the Media that, as Romney surrogates are doing isn’t going to give us any momentum and you’re not going to whip people into enthusiasm.

We all just need to sit back and hold our collectives breaths and wait to see what Romney does this next coming week. 9 days at the latest.

The more I listen to Rush the more I’ve come to believe that “Show Prep” is three guys sitting around a table for 2 hours reading Freerepublic on their Mac Notebooks.

Rush is beginning to sound a bit nervous. I don't like that.

I think like many of us he is just suffering daily cranial explosions over the steady stream of absolute Soviet propaganda lies, spin and B.S. that the mainstream media is willing to put out there. I'm sure as a member of the media he never thought he'd live to see an American media that was almost 100% pure lies.
