Colin Powell’s Former Chief of Staff Explodes on the GOP: ‘My Party Is Full of Racists’
The Blaze ^ | October 27, 2012 | Madeleine Morgenstern

The former chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Friday called the Republican Party “full of racists” who want President Barack Obama out of office, not because of his job as commander in chief, but because of “the color of his skin.”

Retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a Republican, was reacting to former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu’s since-retracted assertion that Powell endorsed Obama for re-election because of his race. While calling Sununu’s comment an “unfortunate slip of words,” Wilkerson said it speaks to a larger problem within the GOP.

“My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people — not all of them, but most of them — who are still basing their decisions on race,” Wilkerson told MSNBC’s Ed Schultz. “Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.”

Powell broke with the Republican Party to endorse Obama for a second time this week, prompting Sununu — a top Romney surrogate — to say, “he’s got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama…I think when you have somebody of your own race that you’re proud of being president of the United States.”

Sununu walked the comment back hours later, saying in a statement he did not believe Powell’s endorsement “was based on anything but his support of the president’s policies.”

“To say that Colin Powell would endorse President Obama because of his skin color is like saying Mother Teresa worked for profit,” Wilkerson said on “The Ed Show.”

Wilkerson seconded Powell’s endorsement, saying there has been “steady improvement” under Obama and that “he needs another four years to make more improvements because there’s still lots of improvements that need to be made.”

What do you call it when 90+% of a particular race votes for a candidate because of his race?

The Democrat party is full of racists, not the GOP.

In my mind, anyone who votes for someone solely because of his race is a racist. (That includes Colin Powell who has admitted doing just that!)

Colin Powell is a disgrace. Period. Obviously he didn’t assimilate the principle of meritocracy engendered in the US Army.

Who in the world do you think will have you? The only path that doesn't lead to your eventual genocide is through white conservative America.

Colin Powell was an affirmative action guy.
His intellect has always been suspect.....now, this proves it.

The guy is no Repub.

Repubs don’t vote for leftists and they don’t vote for Dems. Not if their name is Clinton, not if their name is Carter, and not if their name is Obama.

If Colin Powell voted for Clinton and Carter, then his vote for Obama would be consistent with his values. If he didn’t vote for Clinton and Carter, because they were Dems and men of the left, then his vote for Obama only makes sense if it was based on some kind of ethnic solidarity.

I suppose there could have been some kind of personal grudge against McCain, which would be perfectly plausible, but McCain isn’t running this year.

So, there it is. Either Powell is a man of the left, in which his vote is at least consistent, or he is voting out of ethnic loyalty.

Real Republicans do not go on Special Ed’s show to rip the Republican nominee. This guy is a liberal clown. One of those liberals who lie to the “media” by claiming that they are a “republican, voted for Bush, twice, drive a “Honda” Prius and have a son in Iraq.” Liberal pimps like this clown are a dime a dozen. They’re all over TV and radio around election time.

I think it's becoming pretty obvious that Powell was always a democrat at heart who stayed with the GOP as long as it was good for his career. Once he no longer needed us his true political allegiances began shining through.

Wow! Could you find two uglier people to put on a TV screen? Sergeant Schultz and Colonel Wilkerson. Where’s LaBeau and Hogan?

Considering how antagonistic Obama has been to the Military, it is difficult to believe that Gov. Sununu's original comment was off the mark. But, here was my take on this, when I was pinged in an earlier thread:
