Christie: Talking gun control is not enough
CBS News ^ | January 9, 2013

Posted on 01/09/2013 11:11:08 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., called for a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence Wednesday on "CBS This Morning," saying, "If all we talk about is just controlling guns, which we should talk about, then we're not doing enough."

Christie said, "In New Jersey, we have the second toughest gun laws in America already," but suggested that restrictions on firearms are insufficient.

The governor decried the "stigma about mental illness treatment in this country" that prevents mentally ill people from seeking help as one contributing factor to gun violence.

He also spoke to the need to "talk about substance abuse" and examine the "violence in these video games," adding, "I don't allow 'Call of Duty' in my home."

Asked by "CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O'Donnell why he did not address gun control in his State of the State address on Tuesday, Christie said it was just a matter of prioritizing.

"In a half-hour address, you pick and choose what you're going to talk about," explaining that the ongoing recovery from Superstorm Sandy took precedence.

Christie added even if his harsh words for House Republicans when decided to postpone a vote on the Sandy relief package offended members of his own party, "I don't worry about that."

"Sandy is and was above politics, and should be. And if my party is not putting it above politics, they're gonna hear from me about it."

He continued, "In the end, the decision that I criticized was one that the speaker made," but said, "I think we have the whole House of Representatives listening to us now."(continued)

Yeah, seek mental health treatment and lose your ability to buy a gun for life. No disincentive there.

The only gun control legislation I want to see is “own a gun or pay a large tax for the privilege of not owning one”.
Christie is nothing more than a tub of lard version of OBAMA.

Christie is no friend of ours and a gun grabber to boot.

If this is the best Republicans have to offer then we need a third party.

I love how his friends in the media describe him as “nearly 300 pounds” and such like. I’m almost 350lbs and he is MUCH bigger than I am. At least 1/3 bigger.

For what? Obama's new vice-president when he runs for his 3rd term after issuing an executive order overriding the 22nd amendment?

It is more covertly pervasive than that....imagine if their mental health stipulations were strengthened to the point of cross-correlating the ACA (these people are gonna know EXACTLY what medicine you take forever) databases with the NICS....a prescription for Ritalin could become a disqualifier. A prescription for NSAIDs, too.... Nevermind the narcotic pain killer prescriptions that have been prescribed, even for a single instance.

The point of these contemplated laws isn’t about mental illness, sane control of who can own a gun.....they don’t want ANY American to own a gun, period! Why in the hell can the normal citizen see this? These people are controlling evil people who get their cookies controlling others. Their worst nightmare is a regular fed-up American, millions of them, finally having enough.

You give up one inch, and these people will eventually take your life.

Seems like he loves his Philly Cheese Steaks, Fries, Nachos, Ribs, Burgers, Fries, and all that other stuff. Unless he just likes those big tubs of butter and jars of Mayonnaise.

And this corpulent, cottage-cheese-assed wannabe muzzle-snatcher is supposely a conservative?

I wonder how Ann Coulter will reconcile her irrational slobberfest love-affair for this sweat-spilling kommie suck-hog now.

Same here. 300 lb. is apparently some "magic number" in the weight field, but you ask anyone who knows me, and they'd guess I was 250-275. When they find out I'm 350, they're shocked. Incidentally, it makes for a lot of fun at the "Guess your weight" booths at the fair.

FWIW, I'm 6'2", but I've hovered over 300 for most of my life.

Just shows that there is both good and bad aspects to everything, even a hurricane.

If not for hurricane Sandy, many would still be fooled by the Christie hype and his PR.

Now, thanks to a hurricane, we know who and what he is. Thanks, but no thanks.
