Christie: Talking gun control is not enough

Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., called for a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence Wednesday on "CBS This Morning," saying, "If all we talk about is just controlling guns, which we should talk about, then we're not doing enough."
Christie said, "In New Jersey, we have the second toughest gun laws in America already," but suggested that restrictions on firearms are insufficient.
The governor decried the "stigma about mental illness treatment in this country" that prevents mentally ill people from seeking help as one contributing factor to gun violence.
He also spoke to the need to "talk about substance abuse" and examine the "violence in these video games," adding, "I don't allow 'Call of Duty' in my home."
Asked by "CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O'Donnell why he did not address gun control in his State of the State address on Tuesday, Christie said it was just a matter of prioritizing.
"In a half-hour address, you pick and choose what you're going to talk about," explaining that the ongoing recovery from Superstorm Sandy took precedence.
Christie added even if his harsh words for House Republicans when decided to postpone a vote on the Sandy relief package offended members of his own party, "I don't worry about that."
"Sandy is and was above politics, and should be. And if my party is not putting it above politics, they're gonna hear from me about it."
He continued, "In the end, the decision that I criticized was one that the speaker made," but said, "I think we have the whole House of Representatives listening to us now."(continued)

I have very broad shoulders, so my upper body “carries” my weight very well. Most “apple shaped” men like Christie tend to have slouching shoulders and poor posture. I walk upright and tall. We’re probably built very similarly.

Governor, the only thing gun laws like our existing ones do is deprive honest, law abiding citizens like me of the right to self defense.
Yes and these are dangerous times.
Why do regular people in NJ have so much trouble getting carry permits?
In NJ, a person already has to undergo a background check and mental health check to get a permit every time they buy a handgun.
Why do they have to leave their pistol at home?
As a matter of fact:
In NJ, a husband and wife can't even transfer ownership of a handgun to their spouse, without filling out a gun permit application and going through a FBI background and background mental health check. Even when both of them already own handguns and have purchase cards.
Why?

Yes. Christie is ALREADY RUNNING FOR THE NOMINATION IN 2016. This is why he speaks as he does. His words are code for “I’m the next fake conservative loser the Establishment Republicans and the Media will nominate for president in ‘16.”
I said on November 8 he would be the next republican fake conservative loser nominated.

"In NJ, a person already has to undergo a background check and mental health check to get a permit every time they buy a handgun.
and 2 non-family references are contacted to ensure the applicant is within "good standing," a NJ Firearms ID Card, NJ driver's license, and then the FBI NICS check.
The permit is only good for 90 days after being issued, and NJ law resticts HG purchases to 1 per month, so if your local PD gets your permits approved on the 1st but doesn't call you until the 15th telling you they're in then you lose time. You make a purchase of the 1st HG and then have to wait 31 days before being able to use the 2nd permit.

Everything you said in your post is true.
Yes it's time to have a serious talk about gun control.
And not just the gun-grabbers flapping their lips.
New Jersey is undermining the safety of the people who there.
They don't even have a death penalty.
We need corrected laws to respect the rights of legitimate owners of firearms and ensure that they can protect themselves and those they love.

Why does everybody have to keep talking about this guy's weight Vet? I don't give a damn if he is 140# or 440#. He's a politician. I care about his POLITICS!
Lord forbid that the British would turn away Winston Churchill due to his weight.

Why do regular people in NJ have so much trouble getting carry permits?I have attended several of the governor's townhalls with that question in mind, but have not yet been called upon.
